How viable would it be?
For objective games to mount them in a chimera, drop them off at an objective with some cover, they go to ground and the chimera forms a wall with its hull.
Just wondering if it would stand any chance of succes, 'cause it seems like a cool idea bot game wise and for conversions.

I've had them used against me to great effect in Kill team games.

Shotguns are unnecessary for a camping unit, and It seems like you'd be better off giving them forward sentries if they're sitting there.

Sorry, what's that got to do with grenadiers or shot guns?

If they're going to ground in cover, why do they need 4+ save? If they're sitting on an objective, why do they need shot guns?

How is this tactic any different to generic mech guard tactics?

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

im not an IG player but that is 155pt and it doesn't have have the staying power you could get with 10 marines w/o the firepower. might be some rule i dont know bout but i doesn't seem viable.

Hmm, so no grenadiers.
What weapon would be best then to outfit 'em with?

Melta and Forward Sentries. A heavy weapon if you're feeling "spendy".

Shotguns are worthless IMHO. 12" STR 3 assault 2. Well, Lasguns get two shots at STR 3 inside 12" as well, but also come with the option of shooting out to 24, AND can benefit from FRFSRF.

The only thing shotguns gives you is the ability to shoot and assault, but in reality when are your veterans ever CHARGING? The answer should be never. You even state as much saying they are going to be objective campers.

Forward sentries is the best thing for them, MUCH more useful then grenadiers.

Harker.

Your one-stop website for batreps, articles, and assorted goodies about the men of Folera: Foleran First Imperial Archives. Read Dakka's favorite narrative battle report series The Hand of the King. Also, check out my commission work, and my terrain.

There are a few time when assaulting with vets isn't a terrible idea, like when you need to get a unit off the objective now, or you need to stop a unit from shooting next turn or you just want to deny your enemy the +1 attacks and for some reason shooting them isn't the better option. I suppose if your meta had a lot of GEQs then shotguns, meltas and flamers and grenadiers could be sort of effective.

We're watching you... scum.
