Virulent Space Marine dedicated to Nurgle

Between Time and Space

edit: Going to start working on some more Inquisitor/Necromunda style characters now and also some Mordheim

I have enough Word Bearers for a 2000 point army with some options, so I'm back to a Nurgle/Death Guard army.

I'm sorting out my color scheme at the moment so I won't have any infantry up yet. I do however have a WIP Heldrake to start.

I sourced alot of different ideas off various other converters out there and I have this so far for a GUO type winged Biomechanical Drake:

and this one will be more of a demon possession breaking out of an Imperial Fighter for its overall look:

and this junk for another idea that will make a 3rd Heldrake with a Blight Drone look with the dual rotors:

None of this is super original, but then again, nothing ever is these days.

On the top conversion, should I add a sagging/pustule ridden belly hanging from its "midsection"?

On the Fighter Winged one, should I swap out the dragon head for a ForgeFiend head? to take it another step away from the dragon look? I don't consider a "dragon look" to be very Nurgley

The third one is just in my mind at the moment, but just think about a huge Blight Drone with a little more bio-mechanical tentacles/buts and such. There are a few on the interwebs that have been based off of the Giant WFB Goblin Spider kit. I won't be using the spider look, because I'm not spending the money for that. Any ideas for a replacement torso?

Looks like I will be doing the "green" PlagueMarines. I'm just a fan of green more than the Pre-Heresy style. This is some paint slapped onto a mini that I got in a trade and was coated in a ton of layers of paint. I stripped it, but some of the old paint is still there, so it is a little rough looking right now.

Here is the current state of Heldrake#1

And this is how I have it attached to the base. Since I will be making it look as though it is perched on the top of some ruined pipes etc. I made it so that it slots right onto the base and can be removed for transport etc.

I found more metal nurglings. I have 303 of them now in this sack.

Not a ton of progress, but it has been a busy week.

That's a lot of Nurglings!

Looking forward to seeing your progress, I like the swapped kitbash on the Heldrakes so far.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Here are a few more test minis. The first is just basecoated and the washed with a custom sewer wash I made. I'm not happy with it but may need to paint it a lil more to see what it looks like. The second mini is basecoated and washed like the first, then I sprayed a golden yellow ink from the top of the mini and an aquamarine color tint from the bottom. Then I filled in some details and some rust just to get a feel for how it may look.

The mini is maybe 80% done, but this gives a good idea of what it may look like when done. I'm still not 100% happy with the colors and don't know what I am missing. ANY suggestions and ideas would be appreciated.

Once again, any advice would be great!

Three Color Minimum

I'm really liking where you're going with the colour scheme. Regarding it needing something more, you could possibly experiment with some more dirty browns or yellows to make it look a bit more diseased or decayed? I'm a big fan of the tentacle arm, though. It looks awesome and really suits the feel of the mini. And you've done a really nice job with the glowing purple as well.

Thanks lennymaybe. I need to finish him up and get some decent photos, those photos are very bad. I'm also working on another model with a slightly different recipe for the base colors.

It's hard to paint a good nurgle marine and paint it "filthy" but still make it look like you didn't just slop stuff all over it. I'm trying to get a nicely painted mini, "technique"- wise, but still have him dirty and diseased. I'm having trouble doing that :(

Ok, so I have decided to do a little twist on some of my Nurgle minis. Going to make a Radical Inquisitor and his Crew of Acolytes etc. plus some infected Guardsmen to represent them getting infected by Zombie Virus/ turning to Nurgle and so on. Also going to keep working on my Nurgle Army and let the Inquisitor types fit in with them somehow..... As cultists or even some "DeathGuard" equivalent Inquisitor types in power armor.. blah blah. anyway here are some pics.

Progress on my Nurgle PlagueDrake:

A first take on an Radical Inquisitor Acolyte that has been infected or turned. Its WIP on a mini I made years ago but never finished:

Some Cultists/Priciple Agents for the Inquisitor types WIP and some I have made a long time ago and other new ones:

Some new test scheme for my DeathGuard types. I kinda like the green to tan highlight that this has. Need to finish it to be sure:

Any hints or tips are appreciated.

Colour me interested. Some nice conversions there, especially the Radical Inquisitor Acolyte.

Thanks Dreadclaw69. The goal and also a hurdle I must get over, is to make the Inquisitor and his staff and Guardsmen etc. Look like Imperial Agents that have turned to Nurgle and also have them fit in good Chaos Space Marine Army. For instance, any Inquisitor could get access to human power armor so I could then use him as a Leader or Sgt. or whatever and many of his little minions will have to just be converted up to represent cultists, since they have lower levels of armor. Maybe a Tech Magos could pass for power armored also.... Anyway, these are the things I must work on to make the characters also be useful in an army list.

Thanks Karokk and Squidbot.

I have a little update on the plaguedrake and some buildings that I upgarded. They were Mordheim but I upgraded with plasticard, and woodglue mixed with sand to strengthen them. I also added Supports and crossbeams from old Sprue. They are two burned out buildings that are the remains of an uncovered Nurgle Cult.

Still working on Deathguard color schemes. Have been trying out several, including a blue/green mix.

A Razorwire trap? I dunno, but my 3 year old did it with wire, hotglue gun and some bits.

My Mordheim/ Low Tech hab Burned out ruins:

Here is a sample of my old TraitorGuard colors that I may try to duplicate for my scehem for the Deathguard. Its very "streaky" and not a top notch technique at all, but I may try to remember the recipes and do somthing similar if it won't make my painting look to crappy. I remember these were back in the day of "Min-Wax" dipping lol. There is also an old traitorguard with the same style:

My 3 year olds' version of a Daemon Engine:

The colors are very similar to this marine but more streaky and more highlights:

Any comments or suggestions? Please help a nurgling out.

I also recently went to the darkside and ordered an everblight starter crew........ I feel guilty for some reason

I like your old style of painting the Traitor Guard

Thanks Dez. I think the tentacle marine with some streakies in the paint will be the basic color scheme. Kinda an old school scheme mixed with my streakyness traitorguard scheme (5 years ago, I made the streaky traitors.... man time flies) mixed together. Think that the way to go. Maybe some of the streakyness will be a tan/sepia color at the tops of the highlights and then the greeny streaks in the lower/darker areas. This way I'm not in the heresy scheme. The heresy sheme is nice enough and very popular at the moment, but I'm avoiding it like the plague (heh no pun there).

No pic update at this time. I have been sidetracked into making several tables' worth of mordheim scenery for my local store. I will hopefully have a camera again soon and get pics of this huge project.

Little late to the party, but I really like what you've done thus far.

Slightly off-topic, but somehow when I see this guy I'm reminded of the victims of a certain Dr. Who villain.

Hope to see pics of the Mordheim scenery soon

Xeno99: I actually watched that episode for the first time about a month ago. I made this guy a few years ago and never finished. I based him off of old 50's B-movies and of course: Mars Attacks!. I'm new to Doctor Who, but I'm starting to enjoy it. I always skipped over it in the past. I wonder if I can get some other inspiration from the show, since there are so many aliens etc. Maybe that last human/skin - face woman (don't recall her name) would be a neat conversion?

The last human/skin lady would actually be awesome for 40K, especially with something like Inquisitor.

Maybe either a Slaaneshi sect who view their flesh as an object to be mutated into art, or an ascetic/tech priest type group who stretch out their skin atop some kind of frame/tech structure. There are certainly plenty of bits in the different Chaos kits that could work.
