Hi,
Just wondering if there are any novels released about the Black Legion. I've read the horus heresy books about the Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus already and a short story in one of the anthology books about the black legion but can't seem to find any full novels about them.

For what its worth, Aaron Dembski-Bowden's doing a 'Rise of the Warmaster' trilogy detailing Abaddon's actions immediately after the Heresy and how they became the Black Legion. I think the first book will probably be out late '13 to early '14.
But no, no full novels yet AFAIK. They're in the 1st Night Lords book, Soul Hunter...

"It is the great irony of the Legiones Astartes: engineered to kill to achieve a victory of peace that they can then be no part of."
- Roboute Guilliman
"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

The Night Lords trilogy features Black Legion characters here and there, including a great and rather sad rant by a Black Legion sorcerer admitting the Long War is futile and lamenting his existence.

You completely misread what he was saying, if anything it was Talos that was lamenting his existence and Raven saying that they were the inheritors to the Imperium rather than the primarchs because they were the warriors that remained rather than lock themselves in towers or pleasure planets.

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass. |

The 2012 Gamesday Anthology had a short story which is a prelude to the Abaddon Trilogy called Extinction.
There is also a short story in Heroes of the Space Marines called Honour Among Fiends about them
Other than those and Soul Hunter I don't think there is much else.

I think the first book will probably be out late '13 to early '14. Makes sense they'd go ahead and do that. Exile: Ahriman was fantastic as a way to cover his trials. Abaddon's rise post Horus as a trilogy though... Not sure there's really enough to justify that. Seems more of a single book type of thing or maybe just a short story. After all, it's pretty obvious that they became the black legion because, well, Horus failed, their armor was already black so instead of repainting everything the name pretty much presented itself. Done; see 1 sentence, not 3 books. As far as his actions post Horus: run, cower and ensure the the dark gods don't "boon" him into spawnhood by somehow staying alive while constantly failing to achieve anything worthwhile. Thinking about it, I probably wouldn't make it as a writer: I'm not verbose enough.

Was kinda hoping bowden would continue the storyline from prince of crows, but an official black legion series is good to hear as well, bowden writing it makes it even better.

Firstly their armour wasn't black during the heresy, only a few Terminators had black armour and Horus had his shiny new suit.
Your oversimplification of things would work just as well on the rest of 40k fluff. "10000 years ago there was a big war and ever since the Imperium has been gradually declining, the end"

Thought the Sons of Horus painted their armor black then renamed themselves the Black legion in mourning of Horus death?
