Hiya,
I have two questions.

One what would twin-linked heavy bolters cost on a dreadnought.
I got 10 points by comparing points cost through out the codex.

Two does anyone know how GW calculates points for a unit based on it stats, equipment, army slot etc.

Cheers
Usiel

I couldn't be sure but I would guess their poins cost are based on how well they think the unit will perform in comparison to other units. They then use this comparison to get a base point cost. Then they slaughter a yak and divine a modifier for this base number out of the beasts entrails. Once that is done, they offer it up to some espicaly crule shinto gods who send a sign to them about further point modifications based on the color of the next bird they see. Next they roll some dice and add or subtract (based on the color of the dice in comparison to the color of the last thing they ate) those numbers from the point cost. And finaly if the unit or thing they are pricing is for marines, they subract 20%, if it isn't marines, they add 10%.

Hope that clears up the process for you.

My god, can anyone on this message board answer a question, even comically, without working in some insult on marines?! Play what makes you feel good! If you like Tau, or eldar, or Orks, play them. And if you want a perfectly balanced tactical strategy game PLAY CHESS!!

For a conversion like this, you'll just have to make a house rule with your regular opponents. I used to have a converted Predator with twin-linked plasma cannons, and the group I played with decided it would cost the same as an Annihilator.

Unfortunately, GW's point-value system is nowhere near transparent. It's actually fairly arbitrary. 10 points seems pretty fair; you're paying 10 points to go from 4 24" S6 AP4 Rending shots to 3 36" S5 AP4 shots. In most ways, it's a downgrade.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Check out IA:2 if you can. That's the one with the Mortis Pattern DA Dreadnought, which I think can take TLHBs.

@Phoenix - I though as much, lol that's awesome

@Smoke3 - word. (Yay! Church of the subgenius)

@lord_sutekh - Actually I painted up an old space crusade dreadnought with Assalt Cannon, M.Launcher and what looks like twin-linked Hvy Bolters.

@blue loki - Yeah I don't own that yet, 45 pounds = gak loads of Aussie dollars

Thanks for ah... amusement which is always worth something

If you're adding a heavy bolter to the existing armament then 10 points will probably be to low. I'd say around 20 points.

well the cost for normal and tl with the ork is very simple 1 barrel=cost a and 2 barrel=cost 2*a heavy bolter is 10 points right??? so i must agree with cmdr 20 points would be reasaneble when adding it...

A better comparison would be the chaos dreadnaught, as it has a twin linked heavy bolter option and the same BS as a Space Marine dread. Don't have it handy though.
