bit of fluff for my DIY chapter been working on the chapter for two year they needed some story ... most of it its still unedited so reads like the battle reports the wars are based off... hope youll enjoy as always feed back is good excuse the bad spelling..
Warhammer back ground story v1.1
Harbinger’s knights.
Conceivably one of the most uncertain times in the history of the Imperium was the 13th ‘dark’ Founding. Beset by all races in untold number of conflicts with trillions dying in bloody and dark/ hollows of war hourly. Heretics and possessed corrupting , sabotaging, once pure planets and swaying them from productivity to heresy and certain madness.
None can tell the details of this founding, the numbers or even the names of the chapters created during this time. Whisper in cold dusty rooms full of endless parchment tell of shady rumours traded in the dim candle light. None are confirmed or denied by the Adeptus Mechanicus .
Many an Inquisitorial investigation has been launched to unveil the truth. While some investigations lasted longer than other, all ultimately fail. The bureaucracy and blood ties keep the meaning and evidence to actions of the adeptus mechanicus hidden and guarded. One inquisitorial investigation went as far a private ‘interview’ with the high lord of the adeptuc mechanicus his fate was a brutal end on the narrow corridors of his ship as he left terra
Whatever may have come to pass during this time had positive effects on the 14th Founding and the subsequent formation of the Harbinger’s knights. As more and more of the original chapters had been marked as genetically mutated the stock where new gene seeds could come from had been reduced to the point where 3/5th of all successor chapters could trace their roots to the ultramarines.
The Harbinger’s were founded on the very awareness that such dependence on one stock is unhealthy for the Imperium and space marines alike. However there was no evident answer to this problem. Attempts to sire new unique geneseeds had only ever resulted in catastrophic failure. Previous experiments into new gene seeds by combining stable material given by the mutated chapters before their contamination had only ever ended in ruin.
The ancient lab table of mars where some of the first space marines were create bore witness to new hosts. The first attempts to blend the genetic material failed, the strands fighting at the genetic level for dominance. The host often torn apart by this unseen war, others died from bleeding out from the rejection of the new organs.
One batch almost doomed the project. The hosts began to mutate grown all number of foul abominations over their body, uttering screams of violent pain. Some rambled of golden gates burning and an empty throne and white lights before slipping from existence. The bodies were condemned as possessed and the remains burnt.
The project soon made a breakthrough when they found two set of material which was stable enough to coexist. This breakthrough didn’t come from the creation of a new gene seed but by surgically creating a hybrid. a blend of organs from two different gene seeds that were able to co-exist in one body. This meant when the gene material was harvested it was made up of material from both original gene seeds.
This new blend of gene material lead to the due eye colour and jet black hair that has marked the Harbinger’s knights chapter apart from their brothers. Their striking looks have
The material was implanted into trainees of the adpetus mechanics to be grown and replicated. Once enough stock was collected 20 marines were made on mars from a selection of those who had been used to replicate the gene seed of the chapter and of other volunteers. Watched over by the adpetus mechanics most revered priests blessed everyday in the name of the machine god and the emperor. The marines were confined to high levels in the towers of the priest monasteries far from the subtle chanting and prayers of the chambers below. It is believed it was this time in confinement that lead the chapter to have such an affiliation to technology. However others whisper of succession from the iron hands, whatever the truth the sinister practises of the adeptus Mechanicus have remained unchecked. Much of harbingers knights time during the incarceration was spent Studying hard by other battle brothers, there to become the next forge father or techmarine of their respective chapter. The first decade of the chapter’s life passed with no indecent of mutation or corruption so the trainees were sent to begin their combat lives as space marines. Normal doctrine states that volunteers from the original chapter are inducted into the successor chapter and help train new trainees. In the Harbinger’s knights case no clear lineage could be traced therefore the neophyte were sent to the deathwatch.
Trained alongside deathwatch, the young marines excelled in their particular squads. Combating and killing in every terrain they were forced into. Opposed to uncountable and unimaginable odds, the fledgling chapter rose to the challenge put before them. even though small in number the Harbinger’s knights soon began collecting honours and seals to call their own, their young ambition to be worth something and be at peer with their battle brothers driving them on.
However the condition to which the marines were exposed meant 3 of the marines died within 5 years worrying about the losses to the gene seed stock the Mechanicus pull the others back to mars to collect their gene seed. The collected material was used to created 34 new trainees. the trainees were found in the form of young custodial trainees shipped from earth who were deemed to have been from a region of space to tainted for the custodial liking. The priest marvelled at their work and the Emperor, via the High Lords of Terra officially banded the men a chapter. The priests gifted the chapter with 5 gifts, the first 3 full companies of hand crafted power armour including 12 master crafted suits. the second 12 etao class power swords sharpend to a molecular point that could cut through the hull of tank, stored in black matter braces to prevent them cutting their way loose. Thirdly a full armoured division of tanks from rhinos to land raiders, all lovely blessed and maintained by a full crew of tech priests and novices. Fourthly a armoury of blessed and hand craft weapons ready for the chapters brothers to take up in arms. Finally the most prized of all was a wepon that dated from the days of the holy emperor himself, conversion beam. Found in the halls of a ice planet it had be studied and restored. The weapon so prized and rare 3 techmarines from other chapters, with their chaptermasters permission were inducted into the Harbinger’s knights so they could follow the remarkable machine.
The Ministorum recognised the Harbinger’s knights battle honours from their time with the deathwatch and gifted them a battle barge with which they could fight the enemies of the imperium from. The pods of the battle barge worked over time to implant and transform the humans to space marines. The veterans of the death-watch campaigns began to train the new neophyte on their brand new battle barge. The Harbinger’s knights still without a home world were sent to the eastern spiral to look for a home world and system and to defend. The battle barge left sol but the travel across the galaxy took just shy of a year to travel; many challenged the chapter as the attempted to cross the deepest stretches of space. the numbers swelling as more and more men were drafted into the chapters numbers. By the time they arrived at the destination given to them by the high lords of terra the numbers were shy of a full 100 man company. Following their arrival the chapter’s ship was engaged by a band of eldar pirates ships. The few space marines on the battle barge led a frantic assault and launched their boarding crafts across the void of the deep space at the eldars wraith bone ships. The marines began to call on all he training they had endured during the year they had been locked up on the battle barge. much of the own experience coming from brief skirmishes with feral orks found roaming the stars longing for the next waaagh .
At that movement, several non warp ships came from a nearby ice moon’s sensor well. The sudden rush of allied numbers instantly providing much needed aid to the battle barge and its desperate crew. The small ships punched their way thought the hull with armoured ramming pods. The eldar ship was crushed unable to fight on the two flanks. The halls lining the entrance ways to the eldar ship were lined and discoloured with blood spray. The scorch marks burnt and smouldered to provide low level lighting where the lighting had been destroyed or melted. The horrible smell of burnt flesh and spent shells packed the air so all without re-breathers gagged on the stench. The small ship’s crew began ransacking the hull of the eldar pirates looting weapons and armour. The speed at which they completed the loot has been recorded in the chapters halls as so rapid it left the space marines still baffled to their presence. Their extraction so perfectly timed the crew of the battle barge were still running ship wide checks. The marines request an audience with their helpers but the ships promptly fled. The holes they made in the side of the eldar craft becoming gateways the sucking void of space. the space marines were given just enough time to with draw from the craft to the safety of their battle barge before the eldar craft crumpled around the colossal holes. The harbinger’s knights curios of the small crafts followed the ships for a week keeping the ships a few days ahead of them, yet well within range of the sensors.
E
The chapters’ battle barge entered stealthily into the novolv system, like a hunter approaching its prey. The first scans of the system showed only one large feral plant with three large continents, predominantly covered in grey ash fields and rolling pyroclastic hill. nevertheless all the continent where ringed in thick, maturing and dangerous forests filled with vile and horrific creature who’s lives are marked by the ash filled swamps that base the forests. scans of the forests showed a human presence on the planet but nothing that could play host to the band of ships that had attacked the eldar. The planets twin moons showed a number of ancient imperial supply hangars and a large deep space sensor base which from the emergency codes being beamed out meant they had abandon long ago.
The battle barge stopped knowing the rest of the system laid behind a thick asteroid belt and just out of sensor range. The most senior of all the spaceman’s had been killed on the boarding of the eldar ship and the weeks that had followed hadn’t produced a successor. However as The Battle barge and the young space marine chapter carefully pushed their way into the system things began to change. The ship took extensive damage during the crossing and came close to having to evacuate the ship after serious collisions with some of the thicker space bound rocks. The main reason for the lack of evacuation was due to the clear and inspiring leadership of one of the latest initiates, brother outh. By not pronouncing himself as the best to lead the chapter he had marked himself as fit to lead his brothers. In a near unified vote outh was named as the first chapter master.
On the other side of the thick belt scans showed a series of heavy populated planets. The largest was a hive city full to the brim with crime and rouge groups. The battle barge was contacted the moment it came through the asteroid belt. The scared slant face of a man dressed in rich purple robes appeared in front of the captain of the battle barge. The man boasted to the newly elected chapter master outh and the other command elements of the chapter of his domain within the hive city and his private fleet that would forcefully remove the space marines unless they handed over the technology they posessed. The young commander instantly voted for war and across the squad based vox system sent orders to the men to ready themselves. The communication lines with the slant man were cut and the weapons system fired up. Machine sprits roared into life and ready themselves across the ship. The decks clattered as people readied themselves. Below the main bridge, men and women of the press ganged forces began moving the huge missles and torpedoes needed so that all tubes and weapons were ready to fire whenever the command deck above called on them too. The drums of the war engines began to beat, with every thud the ship drew closer to its coming war. The very bulk heads o the ship began to crave the coming battle willing the ship on through the dead space towards the hive planet. The chapter was not going to be bullied into submission, no matter the cost.
On the command deck reports flooded in from across the ship, tablets and lists were checked and recorded. Every one began to speed up as stations informed the young officers on the deck of the ships readiness to fight. The captain new to the levels of responsibilities his position held began to recall on any and all knowledge he had so he too was ready for the upcoming battle.
The space marine across the ship ran to their bunks and collected any wargear they believed they might need. Priest and in ship clergy lined the halls to the hangar, splashing the holy marines with oils and scents. Prays of faint and strength followed the marines, they paid little attention to the aging men around them. The chaplin at the end of the hallway system gave them all the confidence and inspiration they needed. His armour so dark it seemed to suck in the light to give the figure an unnatural haze, only the odd bit off dimly lit gold reflecting any light. As the marines pasted him he spoke a single sentence “loyal, until death”, The chapters war cry was born.
The space marines reported to the hangar a gasp at the chapter’s new thunderhawk gun ships stood still ready to greet the marines with open hatches. Each hawk was rushed over and checked by the crew each carrying out drills they had had drilled into their dna. The marines did the same as they locked themselves into the low gravity harness. The war drums within the thunderhawks began to join the orchestra of the rest of the ship, while the fission reactors in the heart of the ship powered up.
E
The display of near space began to bleep with in coming targets. Most the small and lightly armed ships that had attacked the eldar, most armed for boarding actions. Only 3 or 4 of their number were large ships, many aged and as old as the end of great crusades. The crew of the battle barge began to make calculations to range, weapons and possible weak spots with in the target fleets formations. The captain, lost to what to do as the enemy fleets make up was read out to him turned to chapter master outh. He began to cress his face in an infinite stare, his eyes shining golden in the low level lighting filling the bridge. The bridge grew still as the distance spots of the enemies’ engines flares against the darkness of space. Outh turned on the spot heading down the hallway using his internal vox unit to relay his orders to the captain. As he passed the first bulk head He orders 2 vollies of torpedoes to burst 100 meters of the front line of the advancing ships. He had seen how the ships had faired against the stationary eldar craft and he wasn’t going to make the same mistake. With quick clipped remarks he laid out a battle plan to the captain while still headed off down the hallways toward the hanger and the other space marines. The captain began to regret taking the commission of this ship, it was clear the chapter needed a mad man to command it. The ship began to speed forward quickly as it was told to, the front bow of the ship venting gas like a mystical dragon as the topedo tubes opened up. The bleeps of the fast moving missiles dashed across the image of near space in front of the captain. Pleased with command elements proficiently in conducting the command, he ordered the ship into a dive off a level plain with the other ships. The many small craft began to fire at the oncoming threat and grouped to form a shield infront of the larger ships. The Torpedo volley broke through all of the fire, their ancient design witstanding the relatively weak fire. As programmed they detonated a few hundered meters infront of the formation the explosion wave ripped through the nothingness of space. the sheer energy realised by each detonation causing a space distortion similar to that of a shockwave, powerful enough to blow holes in enemy armour. The distance from the enemy ships however did no serious damage to the larger of the enemy fleet nonetheless most of the small ships were knocked out by the blast. The simple computers and systems on board the crafts unable to withstand the rush of energy that impacted against them. The larger ships pushed through the field of knocked out ships, there sleek shape brushing them aside. The crews on board the larger ships began searches for the battle barge, its change in position hadn’t been noticed in confusion of dealing with the oncoming torpedo attack. On board the largest of the ships stood the heavy governor a sudden rush of fear racing up his back, he screamed at the crew looking for the massive battle barge.
The battle barge hastily approached the fleet closing in from beneath them. All weapons trained on the stunned fleet. The ships didn’t take long to find the battle barge it wasn’t trying to hid any of its energy signatures and outputs. The effect of attacking from beneath the fleet did have the desired effect, the panic quickly spread each captain changing heading and quickly breaking from formation. The fleet began a dive to try and match the level of the battle barge. But as the ships began to dive the battle barge countered their movements and began to ascend toward where the fleet had been. The ships rushed down to meet their doom, their formation broken left each open to a devastate blow from the barges broadside. The first of the attacking ships began a death or glory run aiming for the bridge of the battle barge with its armoured bow. The barge responded rolling over so that its guns were still pointing at the poor ship whose own broadside speed off into space. the battle barge fired only one round which stuck at the armoured hanger in the mid section of the ship. The battle barges own hangers quickly opened to release 6 tiny thunder hawk gunships and a number of tiny fighters. A pair of hawks hurried across the gulf of space inserting them selves into the open wound of the ship just as the ancient force field began to flicker on and plug the gap in the hull. From the thunder hawks the trained space marines poured out the squads heading quickly up the level towards the bridge. The speed at which they hit home meant that there was virtually no resistance along the halls and corridors. The rest of the fleet came at the now stationary battle barge. Its system now shutting down, spinning on its axis almost out of control. The rest of the ships descended believing the ship was dead in the water completely unaware of the fate of the first ship. The next two ships approached from opposite side racing to see who could launch their boarding crafts first. The battle barge started to slow its spinning by releasing plasma along the huge banks at its rear. The ships old captain began to realise the trap they had fallen into as two more missiles struck against their mid sections. Flowing in behind the missiles piercing explosion were the tiny thunder hawks again inserted themselves like a mosquito on a leviathan’s body. The extra defence weapons fired from both ships but their power was so little the battle barge simply rocking in the light of the firing. The thunderhawk were also fired at but the massive speed at which the stunned ships rolled most of the shots fled off into space.
The final ship suddenly alone in its attack broke off and began to head back to the hive planet. The space marines across the ships they had boarded grouped the bridge crew and watched over them intently. The reports of their success flooded into the battle barge. The command crews who didn’t swear their loyalty were switched out for young officers from the surplus on the battle barge. The process of imparting their force onto the rest of ship took an less than an hour, the low level crews never fully aware to the hostile takeover till the heavy armoured marines marched into their sector to enforce their will. The ships were checked over by the tech preiest who marvelled in such ancient and mystical machinery, blessed in the name of various saints and the emporour by the clergy. The ships were also renamed after one of the three largest planets in the system, mainly because no-one knew the original names of the ships and had only ever been commanded by those who commanded them. Once the takeover was complete outh sent the fleet to collect as many of the small crafts still stranded from the explosion of the missiles. The battle barge and the ram shack fleet withdrew from the inner system to the asteroid belt.
E
The smaller vessels were repaired to the best of the fleets ability and set to work to began work blasting the asteroids to create a single entry way through the deadly belt.
The system goverour began to condeem the space marines claiming all those who had left the star port in the fleet had died in the suck vacuum of space. outh refused to marshal his frces against the system. He tried to persuade the governor to accept the chapters intentions as only good ones. Unwilling to bend the system soon began to starve as the ships that were usually used to transport food from the agi world had been captured by the space marines. Lord outh put aside his hate for the goverour and allowed the larger ships to return to their duties under the ecourt of a few of the chapters marines. However even in light of this action the systems population refused to accept the chapters althory and intentions. The space marines command council turned to their captives for answers.
The stories they told of the things the system had endured made the some of space marine to openly curse the incompetence of the berocrates who ran the imperium. The system had once been a work shop of massive scale with exports all across the sector. But soon after the heresy in the chaos that ensued a fleet of aliens who had been pushed off their home worlds by the great crusade came to the system. They demolished 2 of the planets to encase the system in cloud of protective rocks. After a brief war the technologically advanced speiceis took dominance of the system, subjecting the citizens of the planets to become slaves. The masters as they became known were a cruel race forcing the humans into death matches for entertainment and using the women as sex slaves to breed better fighters and beating the rest of the men into mining for them. after centeies of abuse and torture the human subjects got tired of the whips and rose up in a huge fight killing all the aliens in the system.
The citizens of the planets never forgot their past and how only through the unity and strength where they able to rise up. Attributing their sirvial and success to the unintentional selective breeding the master had put the citizens under. The weak being killed or starved, the strong being used to do their bidding. The legacy of the rise in celebrated with the youth competing in no lethal gladiatorial fights. The losers of these fights are banned from producing offspring unless they leave the system and travel to the death planet and survive 3 years. The winners are sent to do 3 years of military service. Allowing each man to some degree or form to take up arms to defend the planet they live on.
In the following days the men and crews were returned to the planets, and through out the system the word was passed of the space marines and their true objectives. The tales and stories were soon put to the test as within hours of return a large eldar ship and 3 escort ships entered the sytems ramming their way through the asteroid belt avoid the heavily guarded pass. The ships emerged battered and barely able to move. Gas venting and plasma exploding from gapping holes on nearly every deck of the ships. The battle barge rallied its men calling on the goverour to call up the large battle cruiser and aim the space marines in defeneding the system. The goverour refused to help claiming it was a excuse to take his forces away from him. It mattered not as those who crewed the ships heard the space marines call and marshalled to the battle barges side. The proud glint of fire ports and batteries glimmered as the ships lined up near the systems ancient ship fields high above the hive planet. The eldar crept further into the system hoping to close in on the hive. As it drew closer the forward lances of the battle barge began to glow. The metal lining the tubes becoming white hot as the mass of energy building inside them radiated out. The largest of the eldar ships torn in two as the huge energy beam was released. Its raw power tearing apart what it didn’t melt through, the air inside the ships set ablaze as the air was super heated. The larger ships lined up next to the battle barge moved forward to attack the eldar escorts. The huge plasma coils heating as they charged for the first fight they had been organized to since the master had been executed. The missile tube we loaded with armaments the battle barge had given them. the thud of the huge star engines propelling the ships forward with all the power the huge reactors inside could deliver.
The two escorts tried to out flank the large imperial ships by taking a long arc around the possible range of the ships weapon. These eldar raiders had obvious experience fighting the imperial class ships. However the ships were not crewed by imperial officers. The ships spilt up choosing to face down each of the escorts individually. The eldar seemed shocked by the lack of protocol the enemy ships showed by performing such a manourver , they cautiously turned is huge star flails to help it turn its self to meet the oncoming threat. Both the imperial ships launched a slavo of front tubes into the exposed sides of the eldar escorts. The eldar attempted to retaliate aganist the on coming ship however the ships rolled and dived beneath the side batteries of the eldar ships allowing the imperial ships powerful broad side to fire against the underbelly of the eldar escorts. The manouvered was mirrored against both ships, leaving plasma, bodies and gas leaking out into the void of space. it didn’t take long for the many fires across the eldar ships to set off either ammunition stores or the primary reactors the end result was the same. the wraithbone of the enemy ships began to crack and explode as the inside were deformed under the massive decompression. The very armoured skin of the ship shaking under the building energy, as the dark shillotees of the eldar ships began white hot explosions. The reactors becoming miniature suns as the containment of the fission engines failed. As the fleet rallied by the battle barge the wrecks of the enemy ships were consumed by the huge bunning fission balls. The burning mass eventually consumed everything it could and began to starve, emitting its vast amounts of energy as light and heat.
The battle was considered over when the wreck of the largest edar cruiser fired a missile at the hive planet. soon after it joined the other burning ships in a white flash as its reactor also overloaded and exploded. the scans of the missile it showed that it was a adapted imperium made virus bomb. The planet had no time to evacuate and it was a sure thing the moment that the missile struck the planet it would reduce everyone and everything into piles of decomposing mater which would ignite once the virus had taken full effect.
E
The space marines council flew to the hive planet to talk through the issues. They feared they were being seen as enemies instead of friends. The governor meet with them in the space above the hive city fearing if he allowed them to land he would been accused of surrendering to the enemy. The spacemarine choose their word carefully and tried to explain the glaxay outside of the system and why they had been so quick to jump to war at the hint of rebellion. And how they had come to protect the system and not enslave it.
An accord was struck with the spacemarines. They were free to recruit from those who survived the trials oon the death planet and in exchange the space marines would protect the shipping lanes the new entry way through the asteroid belt. The chapter turned the foward base on the asteroid felid into their fortress , tech priest from mars came to look at the abandonded masters technology and the many factories on the 2 forgeworlds in the systems the factories were on chocked back into life andbegan filling the armouries and warehouses of the fortress up. The chapter steadily grew, the trials and test mother nature threw at the excelled youths more than an affective screening process for the chapter. Many of the iniants using the death world as a training ground once the implants had taken full effect and began to fully enhance their bodies.
the governor understood that the systems existence had chanced. No longer alone in the universe he looked to how to collect wealth and power. He left the system to explore the unknown, his journey lasted 3 years. On his return he rapidly began to change the system. The ancient space docks were gifted with new STC and began to build huge transport ships which could begin to trade the goods produced with in the system and export them out. Even large battle ships were built to gaurd the trade. The space marines commissioned battle barges to be built for their numbers. But the governors pilgrimage had warned of the treats that lay out side of his system. He commissioned from his personal wealth grand cruiser to be built, and filled with armies. Sons of rich noblemen began training for war and naval combat as the thunder of war rolled in the distance drawing closer to the busy population.
The chapter swelled sening the danger coming,
Attack the eldar ship boarding actions
The chapter has no artifacs as there is no clear linage to any other chapter so no relics are handed down. the chapter isn’t even gazetted with a chapter banner
The coming of the death watch to cleanse the system of the ‘masters’. The chapter is recognised as brothers and their ancint roots are honoured by the chapter pledging to raise squads to the death watch and allowing the unique worriers to set up a one of their secrets bases on the old sensor asteroid at the very edge of the system. The techmarine with the deathwatch become very interested in the chapters unique upgrades to their armour.
lord outh feed up with the nueasnce caused by the alpha legion leaves the system and seeks guidance in the ancient tacticuim temple devoted to the tactics of the astratus. He eventual returns and with in 3 months the alpha legion are purged from the system with virtually no losses to the harbingers. The preiest of the temple whisper of outh reading from books that pre date the heresy possibly
first chapter master lord outh is assainated
Shortly after the chapter received its greatest humiliation, as the alpha legion sacked the novlo system itself.
If Rome was to re-establish her authority of central Italy, and be prepared to meet any similar disasters in future, some reorganization was needed.
The dark eldar enter the system and become a unrivalled threat in the system. Many of their ships boast leathal weapons and advanced anti gravity systems as different from the eldars systems as their armour. Techmarines of the legion suspect the technology to be from impreal design.
The dark eldar raid a settled world loking for victims to incounter a maze of defense left from a rebellion that had ended only months before. The harbingers knight presence on the planet was soo dispatched to the dark eldars location
The dark eldar enter the system and take ahold of a transport vessel
The awakening of the necrons
The first war – destruction of the monoliths and the rise of the 4 hero units – force captin, tact squad, terminator squad and the tech marines
The first necron war details the first real ingament the harbingers knights had with the necrons. The gates wayt oteh necron tomb had been opened byt eh necron forward party. From this foul gate legions of iron worriors and mechanical platforms came. The armies of the C’tans began their foul work, captureing and harvesting the souls of the enhabitants of mining planet of gaowitus.
The chapter was quick with its response to the surge in necron activy. 3 full companies with axuliary pdf were flown to the planet to reclaim its raw minerails and precise human civilian.
On landing at the star port it became aparte to the level of investment the harbingers knights would need in this capaigin. The location of the necrons incurtion had proven to be in one of the most forgotten about area ofthe know galaxy and the chances of aid coming where slim to none . the 3 companies sent clear messages to the rest of the chapter. The men of the other 7 companies of space marines retreated or withdrew from their various tasks across the sector and headed straight for the untamed and barren planet. never before had the whole chapter be momalized to one theatre of war.
The most recorded battle of the entire campaign on the planet was between the 4th company and a spear head of necrons hat broke through the main lines heading for the main fuel supply of the chapter. The entire front and backup lines had gone without resupplies throughout the campaign due to planets amistum taxes and regulations. The preclude to the spear heads final blow was a miacifent art pice of teactics and terrain use. The commander of the 4th company was fully aware to the weak strength of the the army he lead so left his fate to the emperors’ hands and opted to do his duty.
the field was set as the dawn of the attack broke, the rocks heating and cracking under the suns strength. the space marines ignored the codex pretexts as earlier battles had shown the necron key understanding of the codex main battle formations. Setting up instead in a wide horse shoe shape atop a thick mud and sand dune created over night buy the 4th company defenders.
This still wasn’t enough as carpet of scabs flowed from the opposing dune and hastely raced across the temporary flat valley bed. The scarb swarm was mowed down by all forms of fire power the men of the forth could muster but the numbers of the swarms proved to mainy. The mass of the swarm piled into the only dreadnaought the company had, a recently entombed brother of the name of deacoiux. He had be rewards with the dreadnaught armour after successfully lanching a counter attack on a ambush that had pinned the chaptermaster. His actions saved the men of the pinned first company however resulted in him losing his legs and an arm in a duel with a full 20 man squad of worriers.
The swarm made light work of the connecting tubes and relay wires across the dreadnuahgt. Although still awake the entombed deacoiux had no way of helping his fellow brother . the swarm eventually began to thin out under the feet of the company where they met their end beneath the heels of the brother space marines.
The swarm had provided a useful distraction from the rest of the necron columns movments. The necron lord had used the time to summon the fould c’tan know as the nightbringer and begin a flanking movement with the columns destroyers. The destroyers deadly beams cut through the hull of the companies vindicator which had been placed in the rear. The sudden loss in fire power allowed the pinned shadows of the necrons to advance across the dead space between the two lines.
The company chaplin summed up his strength and faith and charged the night bringer which had set into the front lines of the space marines. The black armour of the chalpin was spotted striking blows against the foul aboniation through out their 2 hour engament but in the end it was the night bringer who triumphed
the company preditor which had been held up dealing with the destroyers rolled up on just as the battle between the chaplin and night bringer ended. The main auto cannon pounded away lobbing shell after shell into c’tan shell. Unable to maintain it link to reality under stuch fire power he eventually phased out. Its form sucking in the air and very energy from the battle field as its shell cracked and bucked the nighbringer slowly crumpled in on itself to its own torurted silient screams. The residual engery release shook the entire area. The battle seemed very empty with out the monstourus hulk of the nightbringer over bearing everyone on the field. The battle that had raged on began to thin out as the assult marines began to hack there way throught the back lines of the necrons. The front line suffered a similar fate unable to uses their devastating weapons at such close range and massively out manoured by the space marines combat skills the bulk of the metal was crushed beneath the front line.
The attached terminators managed a effective deep strike into the heart of the necron command structure. The muzzle flashes of the storm bolters and lack of return fire told the captain that they had caught the necrons unawares. The battle would have been a success had it not been for the fact that the necrons personal repair shops were so under proritiesed that the space marines end up killing the same necron at least 4 times over. And left the front and advancing rear lines in dissorage as they were closed in front eh front and behind.
The complete withdrawal of the space marines dead and wounded was only eventually made possible with the aid given them by the chapter techmarines which arrived on the battle feild via drop pod from high orbit to repair the downed dreadnought. A total of 3 tech marines landed ont he surface, each armed with a mass of unique gear. The first named lorrop began to repair the dread naught using connecting wires to understand the machines struggles. The second dewsor used his enhanced bionic legs and stolen anti grav chute to propel himself to the aid of the assault marines. His melta and thunder hammer permantly felling the enemy with each blow. The third rhamca used a full arm mounted grenade launcher to hurl the selection of explosives and melta he possessed, into the mobs of clawing metal skeletons. The combined efforts of the techmarines and resurrected dreadnaught releaved the pressure on the troops. The necrons continuing their march forward unaffected by their losses.
The spear head was eventually crushed under a wall of the chapter’s strongest stern guard who were from this event know as ‘devourers’. The wall of bullets they produced left nothing for the tomb spiders to rebuild but beads of white glass

the second necron war
Because of the nature of the gauss guns very few have taken a direct blow and been in any shape to stand up for more. Sergeant Giuaso is one such person. He took direct shot to the face from a heavy gauss gun. The blast alone knocked 4 of his squad unconscious, one the blast has dissipated giuaso stood up his armour scored and torn. the fresh battle scars on his armour glazed with the green charge of the weapon. His bolter had been melted and twisted into unrecognisable slag. His suits helmet striped away at the molecular level, leaving him near blind and physically weakened. Records of the encounter say that the sergeant removed his helmet and discarded his bolter and charged the floating worrier. With all the strength he could summon he jumped up on the platform and processed to punch the xenos skull. The sergeant was soon fired on by a mob of necron worriers. The first few hits began to melt and strip his back pack. The volley’s eventually began to eat through the back plat of his armour. The sergeants bleeding wounds were urgently plugged by his enhancements but the necorns humming guns stripped the sealed skin away. A near by tactical squad seeing the sergeants situation broke through the suppressive fire coming from their flank and came to the sergeant aid. Their bolter fire put down many of the unaware necrons, their metal skins bursting into shards of white hot beads of glass. The sergeant took a grenade from his belt and pulled up on the necron destroyer head until its metal supports gave out leaving only the skull attached only by the thick relay cable running down its spin. He quickly lodged the grenade and pulled the pin. The explosion tore apart its front chest blowing it off in one section. The flying plate missing the sergeant by inches, instead it impacted into a group of advancing flayed one. Without looking back at the flaming mess that lay in a pool of superheated sand that began instantly to cool around the wreck, he charged forward into more necrons. The battle continued and all communiction was lost with giuaso but the stubborn sergeant was spotted several times hacking his way along the front line chopping the heads from the necrons metal frames with 2 crude weapons forged from flayed ones blades. Although many of the necrons were repaired by their tomb spiders he claimed more necrons than any other that day. his armour has become a relic since that great battle. The battle field improvisation has been honoured in the giuaso pattern power blades now in service with the chapters assault marines.
7th company lost when they were sent to recover the hounored dead of the second war.
The missing company get in touch by sending one of thir number back through the warp gate
The one from the 7th company that returned is revered by his brothers of the 7th for being able to return and bring help but as penance for his task of leaving his brothers he takes on the cover of the grim reaper. Stripping much of his armour and arming himself with a war scythe. the blade of which was honed by the grim reaper from metal torn from the chest of a destroyer. Its course edge sharpened to a point by the anger filling the grim reaper. The reaper has been a source of interest for those not in the chapter as many occasions witnesses claim to see him die or take killing blows. like on ajydom V where a rebel preditor fired its auto cannon at near point blank range and blew the grim reaper to dust yet as the dust settled he renewed his attack throwing himself upon the front hull of the tank. Many with in the chapter belive that while in the warp gate returning to the chapter the nightbringer tried to entrap and currpt the grim reaper and a war rages within the space marine.
The full chapter sets out on a crusade to recover the 7th company.
The great destruction.
9th flame hounours the brave 9th company, sent to protect an ancient road link from the space port of an old abandonded mining world which had recently been the source of much necron tactical interest. The space port was eventually over run by an tau cruiser the pdf scattered to the winds like the earl morning fog. The 9th were not told and on the morning after a full two battle companies of kroot marched up the duty and bloody hill. The guards called everyone to positions with a full clipof bolter fire being unloaded into the first few lines of the frail kroot. The other soon joined in the fire fight. The shells came quicky after the kroot realised the fight would be so easy. The first few shells missed the trenches and huts of the fortified position. The men of the 9th company stood their ground as the mass off bodies swarmed up the hill. The line of dead becoming thicker and thicker as the vicious kroot moved forward. The officer of the company began quickly crying out orders of fire control and target aiming. But the hardened men of the 9th had been doing these drills for decades and were fully aware of everything they needed to be doing. the kroot Sharpe shooters silenced the few obvious officers and a lucky few artillery shoots left the whole of the 9th company command less. The soldiers kept to and followed the life time of training and pinned the advancing hordes under bloody and viscous vollies of bolters. The ancient rights of the chapter inspired a few to take up the weapons of their former commanders and were blessed by the emperor with the wisdom they needed to direct their fellow brothers. The troops began a tactical advance, getting up from their foxholes and trenches. Pushing forward down the hill, out of the protective cover of the fox holes and trenches. The kroot began to back away believing the advancing troops were reinforcements and were well backed. The truth of the conflict was that the kroots actually outnumbered the marines 3 : 1. The fleeing troops began to panic as they ran into the advancing lines of the their own reinforcement. As the battle cries of the spacemarines followed the fleeing kroots into the lines of the own reinforcements, The flamers and muzzles of the bolter swept away the resisance, like a wave crashing down the hill. Making rivers of blood flow with such force it washed away the light artillery instlations at the base of the hill.
The 9th wave of fire was immortalised by the chapter by a flame being put on the right sholder pad and the left greave of all the chapters marines.

History behind the unique weapons. The chapter master and his empyreal claws, first company captin and the spear of talons, the 3 pix of the terminator squads, 2 war hammers and 4 power blades.. the second companys power axes, 3 companys captins lighting claws, the 3rd companies many power maul, 4th companies captins power fist. And the number of shock weapons that were created to shatter through the living metal of the necrons.
Many of those who now hold the most powerful positions in the chapter were Never officially promoted. Just in the heat of battle they were the bravest of those closest to the fallen hero, taking the role by taking up the heroes weapons and claiming the title. Only the techmarines in the chapter avoid such succession choosing instead to promote those of their clan who make the largest technical advance in the chapter’s natural evolution.
The Adeptus Mechanicus are always on the lookout for alien technology; the C'tan Phase Sword, used by the Callidus assassin was recovered from a Necron tomb world and successfully integrated into the arsenal of the Imperium.
