Hi all. I'm working on a Sons of Horus pre-heresy army. Since it would be easy to pick up a box of grey hunters to use as the starting pooint, I was wondering if they still used any wolf related things as details in their armor after transitioning from Luna Wolves to the Sons of Horus.

Thanks.

To be honest I don't think they made much of the 'wolves' part of there name when they were the Luna Wolves. Certainly nowhere near the extent the Space Wolves do.

From what ive read in the horus heresy books, the parts that focused on the Luna Wolves didn't really use the wolf part of their name like glorioski said

"As a father, he does his best - as he always has - to protect his children. He reaches out to smash, with a righteous fist, those that seek to harm you. We are that fist." - Chapter Master Zachariah Kersh - Excoriators Chapter

Im pretty sure the wolves in Luna wolves had more to do with symbolic meanings then actual wolves. As far as I have ever seen / read, the had never even touch actual wolves. They instead were a pack of hunters that had their founding on the moon.

Better off utilizing a squad of tac marines. If you really feel the need to splash just a small amount of wolfy goodness, without diving into full on SW likeness, see about finding a space wolf accessory sprue off of ebay.

Sarge: Quick, Kill them!
Grunt: Wait, but those are ladies, we cant hurt ladies.
Sarge: Those arent ladies, they're Deamonettes. They will tear you limb from limb and eat your soul.
Grunt: But sir... that's what ladies do....

Not sure about the Sons of Horus after being renamed but the Luna Wolves did take to wearing "wolf" pelts in recognition of the name.

The XVIth embraced the epithet with relish. The wolf's head became a common icon among them.....
The wearing of pelts of such augmented canid predators increasingly marked field commanders and Legion Officers

(Page 66 of the HH: Betrayal)

Also nearly every picture of Horus shows him with a wolf pelt over his shoulder even in the fight with The Emperor so I say go for it.

By the 37 keys of Tzeentch,We open the way for our brothers,
By the 1000 whispers of Slaanesh we call to them,
By the 12 plagues of Nurgle we fell their enemies,
And by the mighty axe of Khorne we cut open the world for them!

Well he wasnt just Horus, he was Horus Lupercal.

There is only the Emperor! He is our shield and protector.

Pretty sure their were some picts of the abbadon with a wolf pelt

Like the great storm of the Horus Heresy, the forces of the True Gods will descend upon the Emperor's minions. The stars will tremble at their passage and the mighty armadas of the Warmaster Abaddon will bring annihilation to a hundred worlds. Know this, for these things will come to pass.

Way i see it, only the officers in the luna wolves have pelts on their armor, sort of like some of the officers in the roman legions.

Horus was from a mine world, where everyone is a gang member and every gang fights to claim their part of the tunnels. There wasn't much in the way of wolves, but perhaps rat pelts like in Necromunda.
