I'm relatively new to BFG and wondered if you guys could give some feedback - it would be much appreciated.
My opponent is an Imperial player who rather likes escorts, partcicularly Cobras, and loves torpedoes. Having never played a game with escorts in so far any feedback would be appreciated. The list so far is:

1x Warlord - Mark of Tzeentch

3x Carnage

1x Devastation

3x Infidels

3x Infidels

Total is technically 1050, but we've both agreed that 50pt mandatory Warlords are "free"

At the moment I also have 2x Murders and 1x Hades available to add to the list. Not sure whether to drop the second squadron of Infidels for more upgrades, perhaps a possessed ship or similar

Ideally I'd like to have a pair of Devastations (redundancies etc.) but couldn't build one with the parts that I had...

A small, damp hole somewhere in England

Against Cobras you should be fine - you've got fighters to intercept the torps, and the Carnages will tear through armour 4, even when firing at escorts.

Just a word of caution though - if you come up against any armoured prows you'll be in real trouble. I'd consider at least one cruiser with lances instead of one of the Carnages - that way two cruisers that can cause damage without relying on rolling 6's.

Thanks very much. That was my concern Hedgehog, as I've only got the Devastaton with lances, my Murders have done okay so far and I can't afford to put my Hades in this list so a Murder instead of the extra Carnage it is methinks

Are you taking the 10wb or 4wb/2lance version of the Murder? I dont really go for them often but if your looking for lances id take the lance broadside version so your not stuck closing just to pop off a couple lance shots.

I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

It would probably be the latter Plagueclaw/Despicable Envy variant with 4wb/2lance

One of those in a squadron with one of your Carnages should be able to put the hurt on a cruiser @45 or less. Even against the 6+ prow 20 wb should crack one open and the lances are just gravy. The 6wb/ 2l closing isnt terrable either especially if you can get the lances from your carrier in play at the same time.

Thanks Andrew, would you suggest having a squadron of 1 Carnage and 1 Plagueclaw Murder, and then have the Devastation and the other Carnage operating on its own?

Ya, one Carnage is usually fine on its own, the only reason i would squadron the Murder with one is because those 4 wb are a joke all on their own.
