Hi all. Brand new to marines and new to 6th. Think I have settled on my list below but not sure how to use it. Particularly which 3 pods to bring down on the first turn

Any advice from wolves players or any obvious oversights in my list. I am also toying with the idea of putting the rune priest in the same squad as the Sw term which will mean they will both use their ranged firepower (living lightning) from perhaps a home objective. Then I could have another full squad of 10 for another free plasma or melta gun

I will almost exclusively be playing against chaos marines and mech de

Maybe you should group your plasmas and meltas. Since you are drop podding, you can drop the melta guys close to armored targets and the plasma guys within double tap range of meqs or MCs.

I briefly dabbled with building versitile GH squads and wound up regretting it. Double plasma, or double melta has been the way to go, with a double flamer squad who always ride in a 2nd wave drop pod.

Looks good dude you should be able to make a good showing in every game.

You will love having a simple Wolf Priest Terminator in your HQ Drop list. With re-rolls all over place.

You can lose the 20pts for the Runic Armor it's not needed on a RP. I favor simple 8 GH per squad saving you another 30pts each.

I would forget the Flamers, and just bring more Plasma and Meltas. Put all combi-weapons on your WG to take out tanks and Marines.

With so much Pods and alpha striking plasma/melta you might be able to lose all the Fangs in favor of some mobility units like simple swiftclaws or cheap Fen wolves. I would think that after the pods, there won't be much left to shoot at once the CC begins...

Anjarc Rockfist also plays very well in Drops as does Jaws of the Wolf...

Drop pods can be very good if used as the centerpiece of an army. Get some Bloodclaws and a Wolf Priest in them, or, Grey Hunters and run some Bloodclaws in a Land Raider. This will bring a furious assault to the enemy, while the drop pod assault gives covering and oppresing fire. I also have run a Thunderwolf Drop Pod combo list. Send the Thunderwolves up the front and drop the podson the flanks and/or in the rear. Including Wolf Scouts can make this even better, if you bring them in right behind enemy armor, you can clear out a huge spot in which you can bring in the drop pods. Send the Thunderwolves to one side, and have them punch tgrough, and have the pods come in on the opposite if youd like. Using Drop Pods for Space Wolves can be more difficult, as they have no Deep Striking Terminators(which I prefer) but this can be good. You can either have some fast units head up first to hit hard and get back up from the pods, like with the Thunderwolves, and the Land Raider. Or, send in the Drop Pods and have some strong Long Fang units sit back and open fire. The Drop Pods will come in xloser, giving even more and greater fire, with this, I run two units of 5-7 Wolf Guard Terminators all with Frost Blades, to punch through the remainder of the enemy forces. No armour saves and plenty of attacks, along with consant covering fire, makes for a deadly and effective combo, that I have used and seen to victory, as will all the above suggested tactics. As for HQ, obviously if using Thunderwolves, take a Thunderlord with Saga of the Warrior Born and Frost Weapon. Of using a Land Raider, use a Wolf Priest/Rune Priest combination, giving a combat punch, as well as powerful ramge for the Grey Hunters. If using the Long Fang Wolf Guard combination, use a Runepriest and Wolf Lord, obviously put the Lord in with Guard, and keep the Runepriest back with the big guns

Thanks guys that's really useful.

I've made some possible amendments to my list I think might improve it. Any thoughts if its better or worse than the previous?

The new list is much better. The only trouble I see is that the Grey Hunters are spread to wide, however if you get them all in the right places, and get the Wolf Guard up to help quick enough, there should be no problem!

Having full units of GH is essentially standard with a drop pod list. I would try fitting in a Thunder Hammer to one of the Wolf Guard units.

If you give the GH a Flamer its free, and taking another special weapon is free. Just be careful with the plasma guns. Also give the Long Fang leaders a flamer.

But this list is solid the way I see it.
