bascially i bought this model, not doing any research before i bought it.

i want to know what it is and if i can use it or not, i looked at some Apocalypse rules and the 'Mortarion' can only be used in Apocalypse Matches because if he was used in Normal games, he'd be OP.
which im dissapointed about. because my army is only like 1500 Points. and if i used him in a real match would be be a Daemon Prince? or a Chaos Lord?
i am wondering if anyone could answer the question. if its not clear enough ill try to explain it abit more.

He seems a bit big for a Lord, but looks about right for a Prince. I'd let you use him as either though.
Did you paint that? Good job on it, looks awesome. So do your other models.

If you have a group that plays HH, Mortarion can be taken as a Lord of War at 2k+ games. I assume you don't play HH though.

You probably could also use him as a greater daemon of some sort. Surely not all greater daemons of Nurgle are Great Unclean Ones? Either way though, with model that awesome I'd say you could use him as anything the right size.
And no worries.

Uh, yeah they kinda are by default, the GUO are all made in Nurgle's image.
At least until they retcon things to add more Greater daemons in 2032.

It's chaos, nothing is truly static. Surely there's more than one type of greater daemon of nurgle. Maybe it's all we've seen on the table, but there's got to be more that just the one type out there.

In both fluff and TT, there's never been anymore. Not even back since Realms of Chaos has there been fluff of any.

While that would fly for Tzeentch, Slaanesh, and Khorne...it doesn't for big ole' Papa Nurgle. It's been pretty clear that his greater daemons are just mini versions of him. I mean, he's the god of death, decay, and disease. It's the one thing that will always remain predictable; thus he doesn't bother changing things up.

I'm sure it's not beyond the wit of man to come up with a nurgle deamon that isn't a fat infected man.

Plague bearers are tall, cyclopian fat infected men.
Nurglings are minature versions of fat infected men.
The only different things are plague beasts, and they are random, and often bloated (Fat) with disease.

GW have gotten incredibly nervous about taking risks in the art department. They could have a nurgle demon that was a woman in a rotting, dusty nightgown, with the top half of a skull replaced by a mound of writhing spiders.
Or something.

Well, that seems more like a giant zombie than anything.
Personally, I think having nonorthodox ideas is a good thing, because the Warhammer universe is enormous, there are virtually no limits to what could possibly happen (within reason). Daemons created by Nurgle himself are heavily based on his shape, but what would happen if someone got corrupted while Nurgle wasn't watching? Y'know?

That is one nice looking mini. For a normal 40k game it looks like it fits into the Daemon Prince size range of models. You can call it mortarian, but just make it a daemon prince of your patron chaos deity of choice.
