So I was playing a game tonight, and a problem came up.

I fired my assault cannon using split fire (Deathwing termies) at a dev squad. I then wanted to charge a tactical squad, figuring the main shooting had gone to them, so thats the unit I can charge. My opponent disagreed, and it doesn't seem clear cut in the rules. Is there an official ruling on this? Can I split fire and shoot?

Also, I'm just double checking this is how it works. I charged a dreadnought into a squad of scouts. Said scouts used krak grenades on dreadnought in assault, on 4's to hit, So 2 glanced, 1 penned and my dreadnought hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. Is that how that works?

Don't get me wrong, both games were insanely fun, but I just wanted to clarify these rules.

Can you split fire and shoot? ummmm same thing?

Its clearly stated in the rules that if you fire upon a unit it is the only unit eligible to be assaulted. where does it specify how much firing you have to do. I say go for it, either unit is an eligible target for assault.

And the krak grenades I believe should have been snapfired, so they may not have been as successful as they were. What did you roll for the penetrating hit? That should be considered too, if it exploded or not.

Ok, yes you can split fire to one target and use the rest of your.unit to target another, you then have a choice charge either one, as you can only charge the.unit you shot.

Unless your dread has av11 them he could not have penned it with str6 krak grenades, but he does indeed his them at normal ws, if it was a space marines dread he would need 6's to glance it and 7's to pen, clearly not possible

As I read it, a unit that split fires would be unable to assault, as you can only declare a primary or single assault on the unit (singular) that you shot at... The rules don't give us any way of resolving it if you shot at more than one unit.

Allowing you to assault either unit, or the unit you fired the most weapons at, or both unit would all seem like reasonable workarounds.

Just had this come up today, I split fired my plasma cannon at a far away squad, and shot the rest at a tac squad right next to me.

We house ruled that you can charge the unit that the majority shot at. Seems fair.

Isnt spilt fire the turn you deepstrike only? so you cannot spilt fire and charge a unit within the same turn?

no, Split fire is in your 6th edition rulebook, it has nothing to do with Deep Striking, Vengeful Strike (which counts weapons as twin-linked) is on the turn they Deep Strike.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Ah of course, forgot about that.

For the Dreadnought combat - as a walker, you resolve hits against front armour (unless I believe the walker is immobilised). So the hits were resolved correctly, the armour penetration wasn't.
Also, the Scouts should only be able to use one grenade each regardless of attacks, charging bonus or otherwise. I've made that mistake before myself.

Sounds like your opponent was a "really fun opponent" and "you'd love to play them again". *laughs*

Grenades hit on WS, front armour vs walkers. 1 attack each. Meltabombs are unweildly (strike at Init 1, so if you're Bjorn, make sure to precision strike that guy)

Given that he actually said that both games were fun, yes, it certainly does.

This sort of commentry adds nothing constructive to the discussion. Someone having a different interpretation on the rules to your own doesn't automatically make them 'that guy'...
