I made a 15 point Rhulic list for my first game of Warmachine with my own bought minis. Technically it's only 14 points but I don't think that would make a huge difference. (Would it?) This is the first list I've made and going to play and this match will be a lesson on the mechanics of Warmachine more than anything. But I just want to know if I'm on the right track with my Warcaster.

Durgen Madhammer: WJ +6 pts

Ghordson Basher: 7 pts

Grunback Gunner: 3 pts

Wroughthammer Rockram: 8 pts

Thor Steinhammer: 2 pts

Now I know Warmachine is more for meta/powers gamers which is fine. But I would not call myself that. I play more for fun, fluff and cool models but I still try to make competent lists. So I just want to know if I'm on the right track from whatever perspective you may have.

i would not say Warmachine is for meta/Power gamers.. anymore then any other tabletop games.

Now.. to your list.

Are you playing Highborne ? 4 star ? searforge with the list ?

I highly suggest Highborne or 4 star.

To start.

Look into adding Reinholt, hes a 1pt solo, and will let your Warcaster shoot an extra time for free.

Driller is Probly the best Rhulic Heavy Warjack.

Thor is a great choice.

I would Consider dropping the basher for a Driller and adding Reinholt. To start.

Rockram is more of a prefrence to take at this point.

I would suggest adding Kayaze or a good infantry Unit for Primed the next step up in points. (Dont use this spell until they are going into combat)

I am going for Highborn and 4 star for sure. Frankly the only pieces I have is what is on my list and an additional gunner, and two blasters and two minimum units of steelhead cavalry and halberdiers. I plan in the future to get at least 2 drillers. However my store doesn't have any so I just picked up a basher because I liked the model and I planned to pick it up in the future anyway.

I also didn't know Reinholt could do that. So that's another solo I need to get soon.

Just to clarify, there is really no difference between competitive and casual play with Warmachine. All games are competitive, and the rules are designed for agressive "balls out" games. You must rip your opponent's throat out, or he'll do the same to you. Thats just how you play the game.

Also, everything is overpowered and unfair. The game has giant swings in who can be winning. You can pull victory from the Jaws of defeat. or the other way around. You may thing your victory is assured, but then your opponent pulls an assassination run and wins the game.

Nitpicking over the small things is mandatory. It can seem like Rules Lawering, but that actually doesn't exist in this game because the rules are completely clear. Its not being mean, its sticking to the rules.

I didn't mean any offence. And maybe I am speaking on a local level that revolves around the store I go to.

There is nothing wrong with the Basher, i just dont have much experince with him.

You have a good basis to learn with, and you will slowly see what your missing as you play and go up in points.

I know, I'm just warning you. People that switch over from GW games hoping to find a casual atmosphere can sometimes find this a surprise and it turns them off.

I will admit. That very reason kept me away from the game for a very long time.

For pure Rhulic Groten is probably better, drop Rockram stick to Basher, Driller and 2 chickens as well as Thor, basher attached to Thor is not a bad option.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Its a good suggestion to avoid pure Rhulic while starting new

Let's say I don't have Groten Grundback, wouldn't the Rockgram be better suited for Madhammer due to Redline and Explosivo?

First thing people warned me not to do hahaha. Though the guy who is going to teach me said take only Warjacks, and seeing as how Rhulic casters can only take Rhulic jacks. I'm not left with much choice. And I don't have a full unit of Stealhead anything as of right now. I plan to go Highborn and Four Star.

Only Warjacks is far from the Merc way, we dont have the casters to run warjack heavy.

Horgenhold Forge guard
Steelhead Halbs

Both are amazing units

If you do highborne, Arcane tempest gun mages +UA
If you do 4 star, Kayaze assasins.

They are all good choices for infantry.

for Solo's
Rhupert
Gorman
eEiryss
Thor
Dougal

These are all amazing also.

He meant this game only. It's only 15 points and I'm only taking 3 jacks, I have 3 focus points to spare.

Would Horgenhold Forge Guard work with durgen? Are they one of those units that just do their own thing?

They can do fine alone.

Only downside they have is spd 4.. but they do have reach.

So far i use forge guard with Ashlynn, bartolo and Damiano and they have been good.. even on their own without help.

They are rather cheap is the big bonus.
