Freaky Flayed One

When firing the Death Ray, what order do you do things in? What I mean is, do you roll 3d6 then nominate the first point and then direction, or do you nominate the first point and direction, then roll the 3d6? or do you nominate the first point, roll 3d6 and then choose the direction the line goes?
Thanks

Nominate first point. Determine length of line. Nominate second point. Draw line.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Well with pre-measuring now legal.
roll the 3 D6 distance and determine your best line at your leisure.

It doesn't matter that measuring is now legal as the Death Ray itself tells you to nominate the first point then to roll the 3d6.

Good point, but I wouldn't hold it against a player that did in any order.
Any player can spend his time pre-measuring any number points and 3 D6 combos before hand so why waste the time?

It matters because choosing the starting point needs to happen before knowing the distance.
Premeasuring or not, once you know the distance you cannot change the starting point.

I know that it matters, but why waste the time?
up to 12" + 3D6" can lead to a lot of wasted time if the player wants to pre-measure any number Death Ray line possibilities.
I am just saying that in the interest of moving the game along at a decent rate, just let him roll first, that is all.
However from RAW point of view, yes, you guys are right. The order that Happyjew stated is the correct order of things.

The point is once you are rolling the 3d6 you are no longer 'pre-measuring' the death ray, you are resolving it's effects. The only thing you can premeasure for the weapon is the distance from the barrel of the weapon to the first point you are placing on the table.
(that and having a 3d6 long line instead of an 18" one would be pointlessly redundant if you could keep rolling until you got triple box cars every time)
