Recently had a game where my friend's Leman Russ scattered onto itself and proceeded to explode, however it had only fired with its battle cannon. At this point he tells me it can still fire its heavy bolter sponsons as, all of the models in the unit fire at the same time (pg13 of the mini rule book) even though it just killed itself. Of course I call shenanigans, so I put it to you Dakka, can he still fire?

Yes, as all the weapons fire, then you resolve damage/wounds.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Sure, but since it's Ordinance, he can only snapfire anyway.
It's the same as fighting at the same initiative step in hand to hand. Even if you die, you still get to try and strike back.

He cannot still fire as long as he starts rolling on damadge etc. However if it was quite clear that he would have been firering his weapons I would have let it slide.

Yeah we played it with snap shots but it still doesn't seem quite right to me in the same sense that if you fire the battle cannon first and eliminate all the models you can see from a unit you can't then fire with the heavy bolters as you don't have anything to aim at.

But thanks anyway for the quick replys

Well actually, you should be shooting those at the same time... so you sort of can. You just won't wound anything since you can't see anything so the wound pool goes wasted.

That actually depends on what he announced he was firing. If he stated he was firing the ordinance and rolled for it without rolling for the weapons at the same time no. Yes they all happen at the same time if that was the original plan he can't fire the ordinance then decide to fire the rest of the weapons if the ordinance didn't do enough damage. All of the weapons should be rolled for together unless there is some reason not to, IE. not enough different colored dice.
