This is the latest rendition of my close combat Necrons list, which I focus on getting into player's faces as quickly as possible, usually results in 3 turn 2 assaults with Lychguard and my Wraiths. Flyers, unless spammed, can be handled by the barges and my scythe. The central tenant of the list is that I present the opponent with several high-priority targets (2 wraith units, the Lychguard, and my barges) that they cannot afford to ignore. Overlord 175 (WS/MSS/SW/PS) (2) x1 Veiltek 60 (2) x1 Lord 90 WS, SW, RO (2) x7 Lychguard 315 (Sword and Board) (2) x10 Immortals 170 Gauss Blasters x10 Immortals 170 Gauss Blasters x6 Warriors 78 x6 Wraiths 240 x3 Coils x6 Wraiths 240 x3 Coils Night Scythe 100 (1) x5 warriors 65 (1) (Tank Hunters or Mobile scoring unit) x1 Stormtek 25 (1) Annihilation Barge 90 Annihilation Barge 90 Annihilation Barge 90 1998 Feel free to tell me what you think of it, its been highly successful so far against IG, Chaos, and Orks.

Looks pretty solid, although it is very one dimensional. If the opponent has anything that can deal with wraiths effectively then you are at a disadvantage before the game even starts.

The trick with the list is that nobody can kill 2 units of 6 wraiths, as well as the Lychguard star before they get into assault turn 2. Granted, some lists will be far more effective against this than others. YMMV I suppose.
Its pretty close to what I ran in my weekly matchup for the campaign, and it rocked the IG, accepted honorable surrender instead of tabling.

Have you considered Bumping a chronoteks into the lychstar? Great for getting your Overlords back up. It would mean dropping the lord to get the extra court unit in there, but at least then the ever important orb is on a more durable unit. The number one reason to do so is to reroll your units scatter if things go horribly wrong. It's a rather scary amount of points to have misshap.
Do you have good luck with phase shifters? Look Out Sir is, for me at least, as good as an invul. Best of all, the guys getting the wounds shunted onto them have invuls (albeit 4+ instead of 3+, but still not bad).
If I'm reading your list correctly, that could be an extra 90 points (130 if you also swapped in some chronoteks). Could eek out another annihilation barge unless you're deliberately avoiding double FOC. My inclinations would also have some harbingers of destruction around. Having AP 2 STR 8 around is never a bad thing in my book.

If I dropped the lord, i could get a chronotek in there, and move the Rez Orb to the Overlord if need be. I've never been a fan of the double force org, too spammy. Its more for the inevitable challenges against other IC's and Monsterous creatures in CC. As far as shooting goes, LOS works fine however. Maybe I could use the extra 90 points to buff up that 6 man warrior squad to 13 members. Throw a lancetek in there as well I'll update it when i get home and have my codex in front of me to get the points right.

I would highly advise trying to add 1, maybe even 2 chronoteks to the list. If it were up to me, I'd also drop the scythe/warriors/veilteks in favor of a few more guard/lords Now, I tend to run my guards in a massive 910 pt deathstar, but I can say with assurance if you remove any high-str large blasts, this squad will live till the end of the game It is- Overlord with mss/weave/scythe/orb(160) Obyron(160) Lychguard with sword/sheild x10 (450) Eternitek with everything x2 (140) (they don't need the invul that badly, but I cannot guarantee their survival without it vs things like characters/snipers/enough lychguard being killed that your opponent can get to your meaty, meaty crypteks before they get back up) (And, being that Obyron is here, so is Zahndrekh) My starting move with this blob is to have Zandrekh's unit start right up on the line, move him up 6, then perfect deep strike obyron up 6, then run them in the shooting phase. Your opponent will flip and focus silly amounts of fire at the lychguard in an attempt to get them down, but it will be of no use. I've had em take 1750pts worth of shooting before plowing through their enemies like a hot knife through butter. Zandrehk is also nice to have, as the FC he grants can make the guard wound MEQ on a 2+, can grant them Counter-attack in case you think you might get charged, and can remove anyone else's pesky counter-attack before you charge (lookin at you, space wolves/khorne lists!) Also, taking away orks FC, and them charging into a counter-attack is a recipe for hilarity.

Nice trick with Zahndrekh there. Seems odd to not try for a further away position, but the guaranteed position that much closer to the enemy isn't bad. Getting a reroll on the run is pretty nice too.

Aye. The other thing you can do is because of the chronoteks, you can try to deep strike way back and use the cronometrons for re-rolls if you don't get direct. Thing is, I tend to not do that because when I deep-strike, I tend to roll 8 inches into the middle of fething nowhere (or worse yet, the exact middle of somewhere!) AFTER rerolling the 10 or 12 that I rolled before.

I was thinking of a list like that too.
Units that were very interesting to me were:
-Zhandrekh, to give Hit/Run, FC, Stealth or Tank Hunter.
-Destroyer Lord, because PE (EVERYTHING!!!) is just too awesome to ignore and his WS helps to kill vehicles, termies and other 2+-stuff your opponent will send to your melee troops.
-Obyron, because it's like a Veiltek that can teleport your Lychguard out of melee if they get charged by nasty stuff and because I like the fluff!

have you considered anrakyr?
put him in some lychguard they are a good threat and gives some immortals a bit of a punch with FC and CA
Obyron is also a nice addition but only if you have additional points
a fairly good way to execute the zandy obyron tele trick is to toss zandy in a CCB that way you can get obyron and the guard right up in their faces to draw fire for T1 until the wraiths can do their damage and if they survive then a bonus for you because chances are they will survive and you can do plenty of damage
has anybody tried running a blob of scarabs with a Dlord and had any success? im trying to find a alternative to the wraithbomb with a Dlord and i think that a blob of PE scarabs would be nasty for anything that it gets in range of to chomp on

I've used anrakyr as a barge-lord, I prefer him there than in a unit blob, so that he can use his ws with his meh (comparatively) saves being buffed, plus it's easier to find vehicles to play with when you can move 12" As for the zahndrek in a barge deal... I understand the theory, but when I've tried it, it felt more like after T1, I had a 265 pt vehicle capable of... well, nothing that wouldn't be better served without the barge and with zahndrehk occupying the back-to-mid lines. For added fun, I will use Zahndrehk as my warlord, pray for a "5" on the personal traits chart, and try to get him and his squad (usually immortals) to hold a midfield objective. Mostly because when you see Necrons with a FNP, you will also watch your opponent blow a blood-vessel in their brain from rage. It. Is. HILLARIOUS.

ya those ideas were more of just some ideas that you could try i have had some good results out of the zandy in a CCB as he can get LoS to just about anything he needs for his rule shooting and stripping powers but i generally find that there are better combos out there like anrakyr in a CCB and just some normal foot sloggin guard or just a normal veiltek/obyron zandy is just usually there for some needed insurance if i am playing on a terrain heavy board or need more precise movements
also as said in my previous statement Dlord+scarabs, anybody try them out? i tried them out but found them getting shot at by alot of things that shouldnt be shooting them so they served more of just a large distraction for a few turns before finally getting to the destination with only a few scarabs left but i only used six scarabs so i was a little conservative about my LoS onto the scarabs and i feel that you may be wanting a res orb on the Dlord

unfortunately, I have not tried it out, nor do I have the models. Like I said, I run Immortal-heavy, and don't have a lot of warriors, ergo, not a lot of scarabs

Don't forget: Anrakyr himself has FC & CA, meaning any unit he joins will ALSO gain FC & CA (if you put him in with LG, that leaves Zahndrekh free to give other bonuses to them (eg. hit and run) or your other units).

Its a possibility, however, in the league I am in currently, I cannot run my HQ in another format, they carry from battle to battle assuming they live, with the wargear they have. No named characters allowed.
However, in a different setting, thats a pretty good idea

Aaaah that woulda been helpful to know from the get-go, the no named character bit
I'd still recommend my lychguard combo, minus obyron.
For a starting move, you might consider a monolith for the lychguard. Start it on the Monolith on the deployment edge, move forward 6, deploy 6, run with improved cronometron run. Monolith might be helpful in that regard. You could also use that to start the lychblob in reserve in case you don't get initiative.

Might be able to use a night scythe to deploy them, but then again, earliest i can get there is turn 3
Lychguard out of the monolith also presents the issue of getting charged first, which, against all but the strongest CC units, they;d eventually win, but it is a bit of a speed bump.
Sorry, should have mentioned it sooner.

hmm no special characters, as much as i hate to say it as i despise it but wraithwing might be your best bet are you allowed to take another HQ? because a Dlord will be a nice addition for any cc army with his PE and at 2k it shouldnt affect anything too much
the monolith idea could be fine but you would be better off with a veiltek to port them around instead of a monolith portal
you could try the royal court disco if you have the models but it might be too much of a points investment but then again you are going lychstar

I could try and get a D-lord in there, there isn't any restrictions on the HQ other than the one has to have the same gear and no names. I'll work on this more, thanks for the input everyone, stay classy.
