Hey, everyone.
So today I got a Rogue Trader era "close combat upgrade" sprue that I won on ebay for a few quid.
Now, the quality of the product in the sellers auction looked too good to be true, however holding it now in my hand its simply flawless!
So whats the deal?
Gw plastics these days are good but this blows them out of the water entirely. The material resembles plastic but has details that reminds me of finecast. Its near the same colour as finecast also.
Why doesn't gw use this stuff anymore or am I missing something?

They where probably less stingy with the plastic injections or used a bit more expensive blend of plastics (who knows)
all my new stuff has soo many undercuts.

I remember getting plastics that were a white / beige colour are these the same? It was that sort of era (when i was very young). But i seem to remember getting multi-part kits that seemed to go out of fashion in favor of single cast with metal arms.

That the one with the axe, sword, pistols and stuff on it?
Yes, they were well detailed and superior to the modern stuff.
These may have GW's copyright on it, but they were moulded by a subcontractor due to GW not having plastics manufacturing gear of their own. Which is why they were superior.
They were made by a company that specialised in plastic injection moulding and that had done it for decades.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

Though techincally Rogue Trader era, IIRC, those were released shortly before 2nd edition and were quite common in the mid 90's
I really like those weapons and have a ton , though I've taken them all off the sprues to organize them. I don't find them to be any better or worse than current GW.
They aren't as greebled and don't have as much fine detail on them (not a bad thing IMHO) so perhaps the lack of fine detail made them cast cleaner?
As for the plastic itself. It's the same grey plastic that the 2nd edition box set marines came in.
