It gives a cover save to the vehicle when it uses them, otherwise all Line of Sight is exactly the same.

Well there's someone claiming that they can lay out a bunch of cotton balls to represent the smoke and it blocks LOS. He's being quite rude about it too.

The guy is right, he can put down the buds as smoke, they are purely cosmetic though and have no effect other than granting a cover save

Reply in kind. Next time you play him (for whatever reason you would want to do THAT,) bring a bale of cotton, drive one rhino up to the middle of the table and pop smoke across the table. Nowhere does it specify how much cotton you can pop.
