I know Game Vault in Fredericksburg holds the occasional event but don't know RTT, GT or whatnot.

They've got a lot of play space and are generally swell people.

Your location means that Fredericksburg, Rockville (Dream Wizards) and Glen Burnie's Drop Zone Games are all relatively equal pain to access if you have vehicle access.

Drop Zone Games (good owner; lots of space; stuff to buy that's miniature gaming; lots of painting stations):

Dream Wizards is doing a big 40k tourney or shindig, I think this weekend. Beltway Gamers has a forum where you can read about all that stuff.

Ha! I got warned for that-- lame. I provided a response proportional to the question.

Seriously though OP. If you say where in VA you're looking for a tournament, then people might be able to help. NOVA's pretty big if you're looking for GT's.

It's a big enough state that there's a difference between looking for RTT's in Roanoke or GT's in the DC area

The problem is, VA is a large place, and people will answer based on the region they live in, and know. If you could give us a region of Virginia or major city that you live near, we might be able to help more. As it stands I think that's probably as good as anyone can do.

As for the different styles, the main differences are:
RTT - lower key, 3 games, 1 day, usually 10-30 people
GT - you need fully painted armies, etc., much more structured, 5+ games, usually 2 day events with 30-256 people or so

RTT's are more common obviously and happen on a regular basis, usually monthly. GT's are larger and are typically once-per year for each event, with 1-2 per year in virginia, but plenty on the easy coast within reasonable driving distance (under 10 hours)

Go to/call FTW games in the Richmond area. They are the best store around your area for those sort of things.
