Hello everyone. As my Elysian Air Cav list finishes completion I am already looking towards another future list (thanks to a friend selling his drop pods) of running a Space Marine Drop Pod list. Now from what I have gathered on other threads and sites is that some of the best armies that can pull this off is Space Wolves or Sternguard out of Codex Space Marines but are their others? And what options do I have for those lists? Thanks for reading guys!

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

10000 Lizardmen (Fantasy I miss you)
3000 High Elves
4000 Kel'shan Ta'u

How would i get 12 man drop pods with the sternguard list when I can only take units of x10?

Vanilla Drop Pods have a capacity of 12 models. Those pods are designed to have a full squad plus an IC attached to that squad.

Blood Angels can have cheap drop pods via assault troops with free pods. You can give the sergeant two pistols plus a special for the squad giving you 3 flamer pistols or melta pistols.

Space Wolves can do Logan wing pod assault with 60 or so or wolf guard or just do basic Grey hunters who are the best troops marines have to offer.

Dark Angles aren't as strong however they do have great synergy with Deathwing assault.

Vanillas have nothing special aside from scoring sternguard and 12 capacity, which is a quality in its own right.

I like wolves for having a terminator serg with combi-weapon plus 8 grey hunters in a pod. Counterattack is good for those podded troops.

SM in sixth can drop pod and combat squad those stern and tacticals. With combat tactics and 5 man squads, one loss and you can chose to fall back to avoid assault, or get out of assault. Plus they have access to Ironclads.

Wolves definitely. Counter attack is huge for dropping guys into the enemies territory.

Yeah, 12 men Drop Pods are the way to go. They leave room for ICs.

I'd say SW, Combi bombs are so annoying plus GHs alone are a tough cookie to crack.

I need to return some video tapes.

Vanilla marines are by far the best for that. Their pods hold more guys, and they can take up to 6 dreadnoughts in pods.

All this is not say BA, SW, DA or Bt can't do drop pod armies they can it is simply that Space marines can do it much better thanks to some discrepancies in the codex and Pedro's ability to make the most devestating drop pod unit (sternguard) Scoring or you can have vulkan make them more deadly your choice

I'm going to assume that you mean terminators.

More likely 6 Dreads if you take the MoTF as HQ to take Dreads as a HS choice as well. Vanilla Pods can't carry Terminators.

I play a Drop Pod list, out of Codex: Marines, and recommend it highly. I run Salamanders, and I find that it is very competitive. It is also, however, very unforgiving. One screw up, and it's game over. Just my personal experience.
