Dear All,
I'm sure this has been asked and discussed numerous times. I can't seem to find earlier relevant threads so I'm asking my questions here.
1. What highlight color would you use for a base of McCragge Blue? I.e I use Warpstone Glow for my DA base of Caliban Green.
and
2. Whats the best color to use to highlight BLACK armour? I'm planning to use Ulthuan Grey, but do I have to mix any colors?
Thanks in advance guys, for any advice you can share with me!

I personally like Dawnstone for highlighting black although most of the ways I use it, it gets a wash down with Nuln Oil afterwards, I don't know if it might be a bit bright without that maybe, but I don't think so. edit: I find the trick with black is you want to be subtle with the highlights, otherwhise it ends up looking grey.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I kinda highlighted the Abbadon Black of my Ravenwing with Stormvermin Fur... I like the results to be honest with you... I don't know if this is 'acceptable' or not though....

I find the easiest and best looking way to highlight black is just line highlighting with a shade of gray. Small brush and a thin line. Keeps it black but shows the separation.

It sounds weird but I really like highlighting black by mixing turquoise in with it.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

When painting black I prefer to mix some dark blue with the black and use that as a base coat.
Then I add some light grey to the mix and highlight carefully.
Add some more light grey ( or use the light grey "straight").
Finally I do two separate washes of Badab Black (or whatever it is called these days) taking care to let it fully dry in-between coats.

Can't give you specific names, as I'm unfamiliar with the new line. Speaking in generalities about question two, though:
If you're looking to keep things simple, very fine edgelining with a dark gray doesn't look bad on black. If you want it to look more varied and natural, though, pick another color - a very dark one - as your base and shade down to black, using more of your other color to highlight. Charcoal grays in pretty broad highlights work well for giving the illusion of worn or velvet cloth, as the "fuzziness" that tends to catch a lot of light. Blues are very popular choices, giving a smoother sheen - more like silk - but you could use just about anything.
