Subject: My first Warmachine Army. running multiples of same jack? good/bad?

My question here is......when running Warjacks is it better to diversify them (1melee1range) or run multiples(2melee or 2 range)... example: is it a good idea to run 2 Destroyers in a list (35 pt. lets say) or would running a Destroyer and say a Juggernaut be a better option. maybe the answer to that is more reliant on other parts of the army like which warcaster but im looking for a general rule of thumb here. Also, same thing but say Beast 09 and a Juggernaut--> is this ever a good idea running more of the same thing (at least when it comes to Khador Jacks). good/bad idea?
Second question is...more specifically, do people run double Destroyers in same list (35pt) competitively or is taking mass infantry just a better call when wanting fire power?
Where im going here is, i really want my list to include at least 2 Warjacks and have an overall strategy of advancing, shooting, charging.. with a decent balance of units.
I only ask because in Warhammer competitive lists always run multiples of the same thing and by not doing so you often leave your army unreliable.

Well that depends, what warcaster are you using and what is your strategy? What other models do you own? Are you going up against anybody in particular?

With that said, I shall back away slowly and ominously and disappear in a puff of smoke, then smuggle some fruit across the border in order to stay competitive with the veggie cartel. |

Warmachine doesn't tend to reward running multiples of the same model/unit, outside of certain support solos and tier lists.
It entirely depends on the context of the list and the point level.
At 50 points in my Tier 4 harbinger list I run 4 Crusaders plus the Avatar. Thats a lot of Jacks. However this only really works with this particular tier.

It depends.
Really, there is no one answer to what you ask. Sure, certain casters will very much favour a double-jack and infantry approach. but as soon as you try and make this the official standard you'll find half the other casters in the game will not apply to it. there is no "general rule of thumb" for this as simply changing your caster radically alters how your whole army funnctions and can completely change its internal synnergies.
Double destroyer? Yeah, with a caster like Sorscha (on feat turn), the Karchev gunboat list or especially Harkevich (who can really support multiple ranged jack lists well with his broadside spell, and his feat) this would do will. Casters like Butcher? he'd much rather a Kodiak or two as well as a beatstick jack as he's more melee centric is his jack support. Casters like Strakhov and Irusk? Well, they're much better off with a single big mean jack that they can focus on (pun not intended)
So to answer your first question. It depends. see above.
To answer your question, see above. Some do. Some dont. it depends.
this isnt warhammer. this is warmachine. everything can be built into an effective, game winning strategy. it might not work all the time and it might not be applicable to everything, but there is a caster/unit/solo out there that will synnergise well with what you want to acheive.

The only time I'd ever double up on Destroyers is when running Harkevitch, since he's an awesome caster with 'jacks with blast weapons. Otherwise I'd run a single one for ranged support, and a Jugger or a Kodiak for combat capability? All dependent on your caster of course.

if I remember correctly, a couple of silly lists would be Vlad1, Drago, and as many Berserkers as possible. I also always wanted to try Nemo2 and all Chargers - get as close as possible, then pop Nemo's feat and blaze away with as many Chargers as possible.
