All this talk of Chaos chariot lists reminded me of an idea I had for the High Elves. If you've heard of anyone fielding one similar, please let me know of their experiences.

Korhil on Lion Chariot

Archmage, level 3
- Guardian Phoenix
- Seerstaff of Saphery

24 Archers, Musician
24 Spearmen, Full Command

White Lion Chariot
White Lion Chariot
White Lion Chariot

Great Eagle

Total Points - 2000

Korhil's there for theme - leading a roll force of lion chariots to battle. Archmage is kinda meh - not sure if Life is the best choice to help heal wounded chariots or Heavens because of its reach. Not set on his role yet.

The idea of the army is to concentrate force as needed - pair up as many chariots as you need to slam and grind your opponent down. I'm really impressed with how much damage a single lion chariot can put out, even in the rounds where it doesn't get impact hits. Mathhammer says that two lion chariots on the charge is enough to kill six basic warriors of chaos and lose one chariot in return. Add a third chariot or character on chariot to the mix...

PROS:
- Would look sexy on the battlefield
- MSU force with better charge range than infantry and a load of S5 / S6 hits.
- Better grinders than Dragon Princes in that they don't lose their strength bonus after the charge and lions are a hell of a lot meaner than horses.
- Multiple units hinder enemy spell casting and artillery. Target saturation makes it harder for artillery to choose between targets and killer spells have diminished effect.
- Very mobile force that can redeploy and rush off to where needed. Slower than cav, but faster and more nimble than infantry blocks. Should have an easier time rushing into the backfield and setting up flank- and rear-charges.
- In a sense, are able to re-roll Break tests. Since you're making multiple tests vs. just one from a similar infantry block, you're more likely to have at least one unit hold.
- Great Eagles can hide behind chariots when they declare a charge - stand and shoot reactions will suffer from hard cover.
- Lots of drops will let you see where your opponent deploys key units first (but also gives you a -1 for first turn).
- Smaller base size of the chariot means less attacks back.
- Cannot be stomped / thunder stomped.

CONS:
- Susceptible to cannon and missile fire, but target saturation helps mitigate that somewhat. The Great Eagles should help clear out warmachine crews and smaller missile-firing units.
- Low impact hit rolls can really hurt.
- Lots of charges need to be successfully rolled. Maybe overcommit the number of chargers to assure that two-three make it through? Then set up those that failed for a second wave?
- Augments have diminished effect. Basic spells will only effect one unit and mages should shoot for radius-effect buffs as much as possible.
- Increased risk from dangerous terrain.
- Could get spread out quickly (away from the general's leadership).

Again, just throwing out something for fun. Constructive criticism appreciated.

Love the idea, and have used a similar one in practice. A minor difference is that I had korhil on a chariot with 3 more as well, and used white lions to fill out my remaining core.

The list works well provided two things occur. First, dont yry and use the chariots as an anvil, thats not what they are. The moment you hit a unit, you are already at a -4 to combat resolution for not having any ranks or a banner.

The force is so mobile, and get into combat so quickly, that O found archers to be utterly useless after turn 2. Id swap them out for a larger spearmen block to act as your anvil. Paired with a life mage, they will last a LONG time. 50+ in a horde would work well for this.

The only real bane youll find you come up against is dangerous terrain tests. With the people I play with, we use a random terrain setup before each match. It usually limits just how and where the chariots can safely move, so keep that in mind.

The last thing I'd mention, if youre looking to fight multiple rounds of combat, is to get a well equiped combat BSB in there. Its a bit trickey to field him thematically in this list, since he cant take a lion chariot. One thought ive loved for a while is the idea of white lion cavalry. I could think of nothing cooler than modeling high elves riding on white lions, with a great white lion for your bsb noble. You could easily use them as a "counts as" silver helm unit, and the bsb as a barded elven steed.

Let us know if you get any games in yourself. One highlight I recall very well is battle between 2 lion chariots and a dark elf dreadlord on a dragon. Lost one chariot, but lord and dragon both fell in return after two rounds.

I run 6x lions chariots and have been running them for the past year. BSB is required to help keep your chariots in combat. I would also put him in a small block of spears behind your chariots. As well archers are key because they remove chap and take down big badies. I have 38 archers and 17 spearmen in my 2500 list and its been working out great. Life is really meh as I have tried it a few times, I found using other lores to address issues was a better buy. Right now the list is set up for dbl amber spear, anheria. Then again I have thought about using a dbl death lore with doom of darkness as a key roll to help break threw steadfast. You will find steadfast is not the issue, its working your way threw the entire unit as it eats up a lot of game time.

I myself have enjoyed when 6x lion chariots slam into an enemy unit.

Side note, you need a way to address cannons or your going to find yourself in the ditch with a busted chariot. As well you do know that buying and building all this will take time and around the corner is the new dex on its way...

I have a truck load of stories for my impacts...

The High Elf FAQ overrides the BRB on this issue. They are allowed double the normal limits for both rare and special choices. So instead of 3 and 2, you're allowed 6 and 4.
