I play a Tyranid Drop List and I'm looking into picking up a second army and this one really matched my play style the most. I've been looking at lists and playing around with Army Builder and I came up with this. Pro and Cons for this list would be great!

PS - I'm not sure how familiar anyone is with Army Builder (the paid program), but I can't find "Lucius Pattern Drop Pod" anywhere in the program. Some have suggested you need to download a specific update for it, but I can't find anything. If anyone could help me, that'd be great.

Thanks Dakka!

I think you need one of the Forgewold books for the drop pod. Why so many Dreadnoughts? I'd rather have a couple WG termis than Dreads.

Far too many meltaguns double plasma is better to be honest, you wont need more than 2 squad's with double melta especially if you take into account the dread's ccw's also have you considered taking one dread and bjorn?

I think Meltas would be a lot better because this list is meant to drop next to an army. I'll be within 6" of whatever I want because of the reduce scatter near terrain from the pods, and the 6" deployment afterwards. The Plasmas are 1 less Strength, 1 less AP, gets hot, and doesn't get the 2d6 for penetrating hits. Yes, it's a shorter range, but I have 8 meltas that are going to drop in, and 3 Dreadnoughts that can assault on their drop. They'll get into combat so they don't get lit up from the Heavies.

Consider dropping one squad of 7 Grey Hunters completely. Five troop units should be enough. Then, as Helia points out, you should make only two units with double melta guns and all of the others with double plasmaguns.

I don't know what a "Lucius Patttern" drop pod is, but it sounds like an extravagance that you dont' need. All you need is a drop pod that delivers the dreadnoughts and you can do that with a plain old drop pod.

There is no such thing as a "Wolf Tail Necklace." There is a Wolf Tail Talisman (5 points) which provides some psychic defense and there is a Wolf Tooth Necklace (10 points) that makes you hit on 3's in close combat. Either way, the dreadnoughts don't need them. In fact, if you remove one squad of grey hunters as i've suggested above, you should be able to afford making all of your dreadnoughts venerable. Then they'll have WS5 and hit on 3's anyway.

Also...I posted a similar list yesterday...

But my list was more shooty and had 4 dreadnoughts.

Wolf Tooth Necklace is what I meant, thanks for catching that!

Lucius Pattern drop pods allows you to assault the turn it lands. So the Dreadnoughts (as well as the Meltas) can pop whatever they need to land next to and assault the units inside. I've thought about upgrading to Venerable Noughts but I like the pods for early pressure as well as Turn 1 assaults with enough Meltas to destroy anything I need to on the first turn of drops. I can get 5 pods on the ground on turn 1. 3 Dreadnoughts that can assault as well as 2 groups of meltas. Just seems like a great way to apply earlier pressure until more of your units arrive.

My Nids army list has 4 drop pods. 3 Dakkafexes and 1 Doom. I really enjoy any pod list so I feel like it might look like a "fluff" list to include that much. However, I think this is also a very effective list and strong at 1850.
