After being undecided on FSA for a while I suddenly noticed (thanks to Dakka) the rules are available for free download, result!

I've already downloaded the rules and errata from The Black Ocean, had a read about the different fleets and bought a pack of game cards and a single Sorylian battleship.
I want to run Sorylians (I love the design) and will be getting a fleet box set next. I'm going to buy a boxset for a friend too so we can battle - what faction would you recommend? I want something still noob friendly but with a different in-game 'feel' if possible.

Would you class the Marauders Of The Rift book an essential purchase? For £10ish it seems good value - do the new factions in the book add anything cool to the game?

Many thanks.

Hi
The Marauders of the rift book is a pretty good read and adds some advanced rules for boarding and other small changes to the main rules, it also has a multi-stage narrative campaign in which the result of a game will effect the following mission.

In regards to the ships added there's rules for the 2 main fleets effectively pirates and the corporation but it also adds rules for adding captured ships to pirate fleets which are cool and also rules for small patrol fleets from the main races with additional bonuses.
I have to admit I really like the style and design of the new Pirate ships and intend getting them when I have some spare cash.

Short version is that the book is worth getting and the price is just a nice bonus.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis
