Hello, I've recently acquired a large amount of tyranids (300+ models) and I'm looking for suggestions on how to store and move them. The bigger units seem easier as I can just use some foam like Sabol foam to package them in but the vast majority of my force are genestealers and gaunts and it just doesn't seem practical to stick them in those pre-cut trays that hold 36 miniatures per tray. I welcome your suggestions and would welcome pictures of your storage solutions. Thank you!

When I got into the hobby years and years ago, I bought myself a large tackle box of sorts, cut out foam to fit all the spots, and have stored them all in there.

In several large boxes that I keep under my bed. Works well and keeps them safe from harm.

My gaunts are pretty happy to fit into the little miniature spots in the army case as long as they're fitted in upside down (so their scything talons are maybe coming up out of the slot a bit but the rest of the model is pretty comfortably in the square, with the bottom of the base visible). It sounds weird but it seems to work okay, at least with my 16 of them, and doesn't require using two spaces per gaunt or anything. I'm not sure if genestealers would be able to fit the same way.

Alternatively, maybe you could get some slabs of foam and cut your own, custom shapes in them specially for your army? I think that's a fair bit of work compared to "buy army case, shove into ill-fitting holes" though.

For the plastic units, as gaunts or stealers, I pack them in a plastic box. For the biggest of metal figs, I use smallest plastic box that I have previously padded with foam.

I use the file storage boxes with either large egg trays cut down to size or foam glued in.
the pick a foam is custom cut by me, i just traced around the model and cut carefully with razor blade.
I have done this with my ork Nob bikes to, will up load pics to nite.

Ended up buying a bunch of Sabol paint tray foam to store the smaller guys with arms sticking all over the place. Works really well.
