Subject: Warpsmiths, when did they show up?

Less of the lore sense, but more of the Canon sense. When did they show up in the 40k canon?
I was recommended to read Graham McNeill Ultramarine books and before I picked them up I came across Honsou on the Lexicanum. It says that he was a Warpsmith. At first I thought, "That can't be right. Can it?" Have warpsmiths been in 40k Lore longer than I thought? I thought they were new to 6th Edition.

They didn't exist until the 6th edition.
The concept of corrupted CSM that specialize in making Daemon Engines has been around for a while though, mostly depicted as Iron Warriors in the Graham McNeil novels.

They've been often referred to as corrupted Techmarines, or Magos of the Dark Mechanicus. They've basically existed under different names for a while, but the 6th edition C: CSM is the first time the term "Warpsmith" has appeared.
And for the record, Honsou is a WARsmith, no P!

They've been in the canon for a long time. Although they were actually called Warsmiths, referencing a specific rank held in the Iron Warriors legion as a techpriest/captain rank.
GW just added a p to the name.

Warsmiths of the Iron Warriors are masters of Grand Company warbands, not captains. They are essentially tech savvy chapter masters/warlords.
The WarPsmith is just a new name for evil techmarines.
