I just wanted to ask if people would be kind enough to suggest some colours of paint or wash that they have discovered to be especially useful or nice to work with? And perhaps explain what they like about them. I'm not talking about obvious necessities like black and white. Rather specific shades that other people might not have tried yet, but which always prove surprisingly useful.

My own suggestions for example would be:

Beast hide from the Formula p3 range. I picked this up on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. You are always going to need a brown, and this one just seems to prove so useful on everything from clothing to earth to wood to hair. It always looks good, and has great coverage. I find it so useful that I even use it as an undercoat for some fantasy miniatures, since it makes a really nice shadow colour for flesh, and cloth, but is also light enough to paint over with greens and reds.

Bleached Bone (now Ushabti Bone) though I now use 'Bone' from coat d'arms. I think quite a lot of people have found this one to be essential. Though it is easy to forget about when you are putting together a set of paints. Perhaps it's because GW love skulls and horns. Or because it works well in so many colour schemes, but I just always seem to be using this.

Scab/Khorne Red I just really love this colour. I like to mix a bit of medium with it and use it as a wash for red. it just looks so rich and beautiful as a shadow colour for red. It seems to have a subtle purple tint to it which I find really appealing. Also great for gore.

Please share some of your own discoveries.

Any of the Citadel metallic colors. I don't know what the new names are, but Dwarf Bronze and Boltgun Metal are my two go-to paints for anything that's supposed to be metallic. I've also got a pot of Auric Armor Gold (I want to say it used to be Shining Gold) which gets used frequently.

Black Ink For me when it was still around I was obsessed with that colour, literally used it on everything, if fact probably too much when I just started out painting mini's. For me Games Workshop's replacement 'Babab Black' just doesn't quite have the same heaviness that black ink had..

Lotr sbg/Wotr Mordor army ~ - 2000pts.

High elf/eagle army (hobbit) ~ 1600pts. WIP.

Vallejo old gold, and silver - alchohol based metallics awesome coverage, and go on super thin. A little different to work with since they have to be thinned with alchohol. It's worth it however.

Vallejo German Grey - The black you always wanted. Black without being black I use it all over the place.

Vallejo Khaki - Just a great color use it a lot for cutting, and by itself.

Vallejo Dwarf skin - this is my everybody's skin base coat.

I use Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Charcoal as black, that's one I won't go without.

I also use Vallejo Khaki for painting bones/horns.

Codex Grey, Balthasar Gold, bleached bone, and good old Chaos Black...

I'm in the process of transitioning to airbrush colors and vallejo, but those are my go-to paints for many different jobs. I also use a lot of scorched brown

Lahmian medium is great :'3 works so well when painting NMM

also scorched brown as that is THE single best paint to mix with gold for a basecoat

For me its either Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade. You can wash literally anything in it and it will look better afterwards.

P3 Morrow White - It's the only white worth owning that I've seen.

Citadel Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil - Workhorses. Simply too helpful not to have.

Citadel Leadbelcher - The new version of Boltgun Metal. It forms the base of every metal and silver colored item I paint.

Dark Angels (Black Armor Themed)

I really like the Reaper Polished Bone. It's a bone color with more grey than brown in it.

Zamesi Desert. A mustard color that highlights up to yellow or blends with brown for an earth tone. Also works really well as a wash to pull back reddish-browns that have gone too pink.

Citadel Zandri Dust , my go to base colour for yellow and bone white.
Nuln Oil (black wash), Agrax earth shade (brown wash) and Seraphim Sepia(sepia wash) all get used a lot.
Also the new citadel drybrushing paints, I'm enjoying the colours I sampled. Metallic ones I found to be a bit rubbish, but the solid colours are great, just really convinient tbh. Would only get them for colours you find yourself drybrushing often though as i doubt they will store well.
