Can you purchase mines/mine fields in a basic list or is it scenario dependent?

this is discussed on pg 140 of the rulebook, planetary defences.
as long as your opponent is ok with it then yes being the short answer.
i wouldnt try it at a tournament though without prior consultation with the organiser

Cheers, I'm only getting into BFG now and thats how I read it just wasn't sure...and trying to avoid having to buy too much FW to build a 1500 fleet

apart from imperial navy, marines, chaos and eldar i think scratchbuilding is the way to go, fw adds up pretty quickly
i got my marine escorts and the ramilies starfort from there but am trying to stay strong regarding the other stuff

I'm trying to play demiurg so since I'm only going to have 5-6 ships in 1500 its not going to be too bad

If your opponent is cool with it its fine. BFG is almost strictly a friendly game at this point.
