I've always wanted to run a main list dread army (highest i've used is 3 in a space wolves foot list - worked well) was toying around with the codex space marine and the blood angels codex to see the point run down. My favored of the two is the first list .... any thoughts ? ..... Sucks Dreads took such a hit in 6th ed. - these lists would be more for fun ... they would be rolled by anything outside of casual.

The BA list is illegal, you can only have one DC unit, unless you bring Astorath the Grim. Then you can have as many as you like. It's really easy to make it legal. Just put all 15 DC into one squad

The BA list would be better with a 7th drop pod.

I have always loved dreads, I think they are one of the definitive 40k units. I like to run 2 in my ultramarines when i can but they arn't wlways the most useful things.
Love these lists and would love to do one myself using vanilla marines, tempted to get a MoF and a couple of ironclads now.

why 7?
Mate of mine runs a 1750 dread list, 3 comtemptors 2 (maybe 3) ironclads in lucius pattern drop pods two squads in drop pods and a devi squad I think, its pretty harsh against a lot of armies!

Drop the bike squad, drop one drop pod, add vulkan, add HKMs to the ironclads, put the regular dreads with CCW, flamer + MM in pods. This way you drop 4 pods down, unleash twin-linked hell at close to point blank range

IF you really really want to play dreads, see if you can run the IA10 Seige assault Vanguard list. With MOF you can run 16 dreads (9 Troop,3 elite, 4 Heavy).

Ooooh, ooooh, if we're gonna play this game, I wanna play! Double FoC at 2K:
HQ
Grey Knight Grand Master w/ 3x servo skulls

Dreadnought w/ 2x twin-linked Autocannons & Psybolt Ammo
GKGM uses Grand Strategy to get as many of the Venerables as he can to score. All 10 Dreads line up at the board edge. Deploy GKSS in and around the Dreads in long lines (behind reasonable cover if available) to cast Warp Quake with a huge radius and prevent all Deep Striking in your deployment zone.
GKGM drops his 3 servo skulls spaced out across the mid board to prevent infiltration and scout moves. Then... COME AT ME, BRO!
Totally not viable but absolutely hilarious. I've made myself want to try it for funzies now... Who wants to loan me 7 Dreadnoughts? lol.

7 drop pods would let you drop 4 on turn 1 instead of 3.

What about Bray'arth Ashmantle? He is a beast, and he takes care of your HQ choice as a dread, all be it for the price of a land raider.

On the marine list, I'd switch over to RIfleman Dreads for 20 points less. They math out to be more effective against everything under AV13 than the las-missile option you've got there. Besides, the Ironclads can meltagun AV14 threats.
If you can massage it down to 1750 somehow, you could have something seksy. Why not drop the bike off the Master of the Forge and give him a conversion beamer, then take Tellion and some scouts for scoring with a unit of Tacticals. I bet you could get it down to 1750
