Hi everyone, nice community you have here and I'm honored to be a part of it.
I live in central Florida, and have been interested in tabletop wargaming since I was a kid. Unfortunately I was unable to convince any of my friends to play Warhammer 40k, (or any kind of game really), and despite having some hobby shops around here, I never found anyone to play with. Anyway, I have finally taken the initiative to dig out my Tau, my paints, and start looking for some action. Hopefully, even if I fail at finding local games, I can still have fun here with you all and maybe play a few games with Vassal lol.
So, I know this is the intro section not the LFG section, but if anyone doesn't mind playing a noob and you live anywhere in/around central Florida ( I'm in Lakeland but I certainly don't mind driving), give me a holler!

Living in central Florida we are lucky and have a plethora of shops. If you like 40k you have Sci Fi City, Amorous Armadillo Games, Paladin Games, Coliseum of Comics, and a Games Workshop. Phoenix Games will be back soon as well, their land lord wanted to squeeze them. They should be back soon. Each FLGS plays GW and PP. Their mix between the two systems will vary though. I'd you want to get a game in, check out their forums. The only one with inactive forums is Paladin, you need to show up st a league night because their player base uses an email list serv even though the shop has a forum. If 40k is your poison try Sci Fi on a Saturday or look up Adeptus Orlandicus for their schedule. They usually have a weekly 40k tournament. I will post the forum sites when I get home from work. If you're on the Space Coast side of Central Florida, you have Dogs of War in Palm Bay or Wizards Wall in Melbourne or Islander Games in Merritt Island.

Thanks for all the welcomes guys. And thanks a lot to you boyd, I knew we had a few shops that sold 40k stuff, but I had no idea we had so many that housed games. Very cool, you have given me a lot to look into
P.S. Do you play at all the shops you mentioned, or do you usually go to Sci Fi City? Just curious as to which communities might be umm ... 'Stronger" than others. Would hate to finally find a group and then find that many of them don't want to play anymore lol.
Thanks again all!

Howdy! Welcome do Dakka!
We play every Saturday at Galaxy Games in DeLand. It's a helluva drive from Lakeland, though. If you ever want to show up shoot me a PM and we'll look forward to it!
The crowd at the Altamonte GW store is really friendly and the manager a top shelf dude. Amorous Armdillo is great, another cool bunch of people. I have had zero luck with Sci Fi City. Very unfriendly and the staff can be a little, uh, "brusque."

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary." |

Cool thanks for the welcome! If I am in a driving mood one of these days ( as I am known to be on occasion) I probably head over to DeLand to see you. Thanks for the heads up for Sci Fi City, its a shame when shoppes create an unfriendly climate for gamers, but I guess it takes all kinds :(

I would suggest checking out each forum/websit/facebook site if you can.
For Amorous Armadillo Games - www.amorousarmadillo.com/aaf - this show offers a 30% discount with their membership. Check the forum for the rules and stipulations as its not a straight 30% off on everything somethings are less.
Sci Fi City - http://orlando40k.fr.yuku.com/ - check the events and you can see what the weekly tournament will be. 3 weeks a month its 40K, 1 week a month its Warmachine/Hordes.
Paladin Games - http://www.paladintag.com/p/forums.html
There is also a Gamesworkshop in Altamonte Springs - Just north of Orlando http://www.facebook.com/GWRenaissanceCentre
These are the 3 shops just east of downtown Orlando. Amorous Armadillo is about 3 - 5 minutes from Sci Fi City as well so these two you want to check on regularly - one does 40K 3 weeks a month and the other does Warmachine 3 times a month and then they alternate for that 4th month by switching up and doing a tournament with the other system. Paladin does a lot of leagues - they have a 40K league going on Tuesdays, Warmahordes on Wed and Fantasy on Thursday.
West of Orlando you've got Coliseum of Comics - http://coliseumofcomics.com/?page_id=1066
These guys are a great gaming group - I've been to their tournies and they are a lot of fun. Great painters, great gamers, and a great shop.
If you're looking for something closer to Lakeland, try these shops:
Sarasota they have Dark Side Comics - http://darksidecomics.com/ this is the shop in which the famous Spudlow games at (VidHammer Fantasy Channel on YouTube)
Not sure where their forums are, but here is their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/DarkSideComicsandGames
Tampa they have Armada Games http://armadagames.com/forums/forum.php
Tampa, FL also has Anthem Games http://forums.anthem-games.com/viewforum.php?f=4
Some on the forum would tell you to watch out for Green Bow Fly at Anthem but YMMV - he's a great tournament organizer though - Beaky Con and Bolter Beach were great events. These are run in the Tampa/ St. Pete or Sarasota area.
I would encourage you to check out the places close by and move out further over time - there are a number of Dakka-ites in the Central Florida area. You'll find some of them
If you're looking to get in on a big time 40K tournament in the Orlando area - we have the Crucible II - http://www.crucibleorlando.com/p/warhammer-40000-tourney-info.html
