I'm playing in a killteam tournament soon and I'm would like to know some broad tactics for killteam games. To sum most of the questions up:

- Is it better to play many average troops or a couple strong troops?

- do vehicles work well in killteam games?

- what are the best special rules to give to my specialists?

- are there any overall tips to play a killteam game?

I play eldar if that helps at all

I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.

Torrent is a fun weapon rule to have. I play guard and was able to take a chimera with turret flamer and gave it the torrent. It was like having a pseudo-hell hound with a troop capacity. Here is my list if it gives you anything to compare off of:

Vets
- Sgt. - Plasma Pistol
- 2x Plasma guns
- Chimera with hull HB, turret flamer

Sentinel

So I don't play Eldar, but I would probably do something like this:
5x Warp Spiders
Exarch
- Additional death spinner
- Powerblades

5 Dire Avengers

Looking at the warp spiders I think they'd do well in kill teams, having that mobility, Str 6 guns and a good armor save. I'd take the exarch since he looks like he'd make a good leader and can go into assault if need be.
The 5 Dire Avengers are just filler and puts more bodies on the table. I would prefer rangers, but with the spiders, points don't allow. Though you could probably build a list around them as well.

As far as rules go I would say. FNP or Prefered Enemy (everything) on the exarch. Armourbane on one of your other dude's rifle in case you run into vehicles (like in my list). As for the third guy, maybe shred, rending, or shroud.

Depending on how you look at the rules, you could possibly put torrent on your exarch's gun I believe. So it would be an Assault 4, torrent weapon...yeah. I've always felt having the template weapon as a prerequisite for taking that rule, and it's kinda cheesy, but hey. If they say you can or you argue your case, then go for it cause that will be just plain nasty on the table.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As far as playing tips, I would say hug cover as much as possible and stay out of LOS. At the same time start shooting as soon as possible to force those armor saves cause the last thing you want to do in kill teams is get stuck in combat (at least this is what I have learned with my guardsmen). I can't imagine eldar being to different, unless you have someone geared towards combat and have a good chance of winning it.

Also, protect your leader, while at the same time getting him to kill some things. This seems obvious, but is harder than you think when you have to protect him from dying as well. For myself, this is hard since I'm working with a T3, 5+ guardsmen. You on the other hand have some better armor and weapons depending on what you take. You should have an easier time of this for the most part.

Hope that helps.

Yes. Nobz + battlewagon (dedicated transport, so it's legal) = lol. Not much can deal with AV 14 in a killteam game. And even vehicles in general can be good as an all-or-nothing approach, since so few weapons can deal with them.

Armorbane. You NEED something that can kill AV 14, and an armorbane scatter laser is a pretty good solution to vehicles.

Also, if you're playing by the standard killteam rules and not GW's event (which has contradictory rulings on flyers) you need at least one unit with the skyfire rule. Otherwise you have no real chance of dealing with flyers.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
