I'm certainly no expert on imperial guard but one of my friends is doing a rewrite of some of the out of date apoc stuff for us and it seems he's added some formations for guard, could anyone with a bit more knowledge than me give some insight on the balance of these formations? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cadia’s finest (sergeant Bastogne)
Formation: 3-5 veteran squads with grenadiers upgrade, one with sergeant Bastogne, (strike leader)
Points: 50+ models
special rules:
Strike force 6”
Only the best for my men: each squad may upgrade their las guns to hot shot las guns for 30pts per squad, this can be used with first rank fire, second rank fire, but only if issued from Bastogne.
Icon of cadia: all members of this formation are stubborn while within 6” of bastogne’s squad
Follow my lead: when Bastogne uses “it’s up to us lads”, the benefits are spread to other members of this formation within 6” of his squad
Catachan devils (Sargent harker)
Formation: 3-5 veteran squads without the grenadiers upgrade, one must have sergeant Harker (strike leader)
Points: 50+ models
special rules:
Strike force 6”
Guerrilla warfare: all members of the formation have the infiltrate and move through cover special rules
Ambush force: you receive a free ambush stratagem
Traps: choose a piece of terrain. Once per game, you may choose to have all units in that piece of terrain take a wound on a 4+ ignoring armour and cover, vehicles take a glancing hit on a 4+
Rough Rider Company (death riders/mogal kamir)
Formation: 1 roughrider or death rider command squad (strike leader), 3+ Rough Rider or death rider squads. Must choose either Rough Riders or death riders.
Points: 50+ models

Strike force 12”
Rough Rider command squad: costs 65pts, as death rider command but without Iron Discipline, Die Hard, Hardened Fighters or Death Rider Mount, may be upgraded with mogal kamir, may have a regimental standard for +15 pts
Replacement lance heads: may use the hunting lance special rule every time a unit within the formation charges (this does not allow them to use the lance in subsequent turns of the same combat, only on the charge)
Into the jaws of death: the formation is fearless while the command squad is alive and have the skilled rider rule
Only in death does duty end (death riders only): the entire formation receives furious charge, and +2 attack on the turn they charge if they are within 12” of the command squad
Vicious temperament (kamir only): while within 12” of kamir members of this formation have the rage special rule
Desert tigers raiding force (Captain Al’rahem)
Formation: 1 platoon command squad with Al’rahem in chimera (strike leader), 2-5 infantry squads in chimera. 1 scout sentinel squadrons.
Points: 50+ models

Stalk the enemy: the entirety of this formation has the flank march strategic assert and must make use of it
Al’rahem may issue orders to the sentinels squadrons in this formation
Hit and run specialists: all members of this formation have the hit and run special rule
Tundra wolves “anvil” platoon (captain Chencov)
Formation: 1 platoon command squad with captain chencov and a commissar (strike leader), 2-5 enforcer infantry squads (see below), 3+ conscript squads with send in the next wave upgrade and a commissar
Points: 50+ models
special rules:
Strike force 6”
Enforcer infantry squad: 1 commissar, 19 guardsmen costing 120 pts. Upgrades are the same as a normal infantry squad, but may replace the squad special weapon with a heavy bolter for 5pts
No retreat, no surrender: while a squads commissar is alive, rather than fail a moral test, they instead lose as many models as they were defeated by in close combat. If they would be forced to take a moral test due to shooting, they are instead pinned. At the beginning of the movement phase the commissar may execute d3 members of the squad to remove pinning (from any source)
Not one step back: if a member of this formation is fleeing within weapons range of either Chencov’s squad or one of the enforcer squads, that squad must attempt to fire at the fleeing squad rather than firing normally. Any squad that takes wounds from an attack in this way immediately rallies.
For every one that falls, ten more will take his place: you may place allied blast templates over members of this formation (except chencov’s squad), provided that some enemies are under the template. In addition each conscript squad may purchase a vox link at 5pts for every 20 men in the squad, commissars cost 35pts for this unit
