Hey guys... So I was at this 1500 point tournament at my local store, i was using my Eldar alleing with my tau. I was debating in whether or not to use just my Eldar, or Eldar with my tau. I deciding on trying something new, so went with Eldar and tau. Me Eldar and tau list compromises of this:

Hq
Eldrad
Avatar

Elites
5 fire dragons in wave serpent with TL shuikrn cannons

Troop
5 rangers
5 rangers
Heavy support
2 war walkers with 2 EML, and 2 Scaterl lasers.

My tau allies:
Hq
Shaso battle suit with a but load of upgrades.

Troop:
12 fire warriors, I team leader with market light, and target lock.

Heavy support:
Hammerhead gunship with upgrades.

Fortifications:
Aegis defense line, icuras lasccanon.

It totals to right around 1500.

My plan: put defense line in corner, but everything but my avatar, and wave serpent behind it, and shoot the crap out of anything that got in my line of sight. What really happened: I got wiped on the floor by crons, and by a BA player. Then on my last game I won by one point verse a sisters list. I was wondering what your guys thoughts were in how to improve my list. Please note that that was all I have for tau, but for Eldar I got almost everything.

Thanks

Hmm I never thought they would be worth it for my list. I figured everything they could do my fire dragons and hammerhead could do better. I also dont know if their worth the 120$ for three.... But I don't know. U guys tell me... Are they worth it?

Advice one: reason to have the avatar is the fearless bubble. Nothing here is taking advantage of that. Either drop him or pick up some CC units, preferably Harlequins.
Two: Rangers are awful. It's pathfinders or bust, and even then, they aren't great. DAVU work with Eldrad support + Avatar bubble, and massive guardian squads do too. If you run rangers, its a point sink.
Three: since WW have to shoot at the same target, go for the "glance to death" approach over a mix of EML and Scats. All scat, all the time. Or, all EML. But that's expensive pointwise, and they die easy, so you really have to get some lucky shots to make the EMLs work.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And broadsides are way better than a single Hammer. 3x shots may be a bit overkill, but only stunning a vehicle with a Hammer sucks something fierce.

Ok thanks. The only reaso I was taking rangers was because when I fielded dire avengers I just find that they'd die so easy... I don't know. What I usually do With the avatar is run him up and send him into combat agains the hardest things they got, issue a challenge, slaughter their leader with smash, and then wipe though the rest of their squads. It worked preety well, ive killed typhus (twice), cato sicuras, necron overlords, and even hivetyrants. But I like the idea of 4 scatter lasers. And the biggest reason for the hammer head was the large blast, S6 AP4 shot to deal with infantry.

This is halfway liable to be your problem. Running a juiced out 'O is usually not a good idea. A cheap and cheerful el was probably a better choice, although sometimes I bust out the hard to kill 'O(iridium, fireknife or MP+cyclic/AFP, 2 shield drones, multi track, blacksun, stim) Which is more for fun.

I don't think rangers are bad at all, but don't expect them to do all that much.
Eldrad is good, but he does not have all that much to buff. You seriously lack models on the table.

As said above, the avatar has nothing to do except go into combat and die. He is a solo MC, an easy thing to shoot down(even fortuned)

You should separate your war walkers if you are running them like this. You should just run more war walkers.

You have a target lock for 2 tau units...is that needed considering one is already BS5? A full FW squad makes sense, and then a 'ui if you have no other characters for Ld.

Hammerhead does not need that many upgrades. Yeah, broadsides are better but hammerheads are not bad. They should top out a 170-180 points though. Any more is waste.

You need more models, be it harlequins, fire warriors, guardians...something.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the Shas'o because of the extra Wound. It matters, as I like to have him tank and I don't run Fortune. (Crazy? Well, won me a local Tourney) But I want him for the 2+/4++ 5+++ and the Hit and Run that he gives my block of 10 Wraithguard.

However, if you are going to invest some cash into your Army, what I would highly recommend are Guardian Jetbikes. A terrible unit for killing things, but because of their speed they force your opponent to spread out while your can stay concentrated and focus on your targets better.

Drop the avatar [not Eldrad] for another Farseer, maybe.
That's a lot of units, and they all need Guide or Doom-support.
Wraithlords are nice, but slow. You'll never get into range to use the blade. Go blade-only, or BL/EML.
Bigger sniper squads are more efficient.

ok, i like eldrad because he can use two of the same power and one other, so i could fortune both Dire Avengers squads, than doom an enemy one. As for the wraithlord, ill probably lean towards EML/BL. i can drop the scorpinas to take more rangers maybe

Doh, my mistake.
I meant to say drop the avatar, as Eldrad is great.
But, if you need to split your forces, you'll lose Eldrad's powers for that part of the force.
Hence the 2nd farseer.

Hmm I really like the avatar. He's great for his points, as he's only 155 points. And he is a beast in close combat. Plus with his almost always hitting melts sword, I thinks he's totally worth it. Maybe I could drop a squad of dire avengers for another farseer?

I say find a way to fit an aegis defense line and quad gun. Either stick the pathfinders there or let eldrad and some dire avengers have it. Either way having a decent cover and some anti air is really useful. Also pops light transports for you.

An Avatar requires a Fortuneseer to keep him alive.

Not anymore then any TMC. Toughness 6 is quite tough in low point games like this and that good invon makes him better then most MC as well as that Monsterous (get it ) statline. If im honest i'd just love to see you do a triple wraithlord list with the avatar and eldrad keeping up in a unit of halequins. I'd love to see someone try brake that. Eldrad fortunes quins if they arnt in cover (2+!) and avatar while wraithlords crack open transports. I'll try make a list, for my benifit if not yours

Eldrad 210
Avatar 155

5 rangers 80
5 rangers 80

Or preferable

3 GJS 66
3 GJS 66
3 GJS 66

Wraithlord w/ BL/EML 155
Wraithlord w/ SL/SC 120
Wraithlord w/ SL/WS 120

4 Halequins w/ kisses, shadowseer, troup leader w/ power lance 182
5 dragons 80 + serpent w/ TL SC 100
5 dragons 80 + serpent w/ TL SC 100

1500pts.

Wrailthlords form a trinity with avatar in middle, quins follow behind fortuning those who needs it. Get close, profit!

Im sure you could supstertute the GJS for rangers, but the effect would be diminished and you would'nt be able to get OBJ offensively or do last turn grabs across the bored (48''!) and if you dont have the models, well. Awww

I can't honestly see fielding Eldar without at least one squad of scatterwalkers. If you are lucky enough to get some ruins, but them in and fortune/guide those bad boys! Guided scatterwalkers are pretty much a finger of death for most units and even up to AV 12 due to the hull point system.

6 Halies, 4 +shadowseer+Troop leader, then +Eldrad.

I just carnt think of any other unit that can safely footslog it across the bored with the MC without resorting to wraithguard. And Halies in themselves are beatsticks. Un calculated mathhammer put them at 4 rends (20*14*2 rends*re-roll*12*2 rends*) and 4 wounds + 2 from power lance + Eldrad against a doomed target. Thats 7 marines dead, the rest you finish next turn.

The only hard descision each turn is who to fortune/guide/doom. Powerfist going to smack a wraithlord, mind war. Leman russ being a pain, Storm and guide missile launcher , Bye bye russ.

But then again i play dark eldar, not eldar. This list is purely theoretical, and may not be as competitive as i think. But sure would be fun

Why bother trying to move, when you can instead just act as bodyguards for multiple scatter walker squads? Use firedragons to clean up deep strikers and have a squad of mechanized fire dragons to take out AV 14.

Also, I was playing around with the idea for a 2000 point list, maybe a 10 man scorpion squad with Eldrad, and a farseer taking powers form the rulbook, then be able to reroll almost everything. With your 40 attacks, rerolling to hit and to wound, then if your lucky with your powers make them reroll passed saves. Nasty.
