Hi guys

Just want to clarify one of the rules about hull points in that if you cause a Pen. hit on eg a Land Raider and if you roll Explodes on the Pen. damage chart, does the Land Raider cease to be or has all the other hull points have to be expended before it is destroyed ie one Pen. KO? Or does it just resolve its Explodes with any models in range and continue on?

If it explodes it is removed. Very much dead. Even if there are remaining hull points.
This should be covered in the Explodes result on the damage chart.

Not really, as you do not lose the remaining Hull points when you explode. The Vehicle is removed from the table, but it does not lose additional hull points.

Of course that means the not losing hull points is inconsequential as the vehicle is no longer on the table.

There are 2 ways a vehicle can die.

It either is wrecked. Which is what happens if it loses all its hull points.

Or it Explodes, which is independent of Hull Point loss.

What happens if you get two explodes? Does it only go off once, book is not to hand and just thinking about it?

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

It only goes off once as resolving an explosion from the vehicle satisfies both damage results.

the whole hull point is such a flawed system.

Under AV13: Too little hull points to bother fielding, random infantry tends to glance it to death or a single decent weapon pens it and explodes, rendering its HP useless.
AV13+: Now its kinda ridiculous. Unless the sides go under AV13 (like battlewagons) anything with 13-14 armor is quite hard to punch without a BIG weapon since you usually dont have a mass of weapons that can glance it to death. 4 HP is a lot to glance down, and unless you get in melee with S10 attacks you arent that likely to pen it.

Its dumb. The damage charge was the vehicle's "saving throw" because it either pissed it off or did minor damage, or straight up blew it up. Glances didnt kill it, only immobilized with luck, now they kill it and dont need very many of it, get no saves from them (easily, anyway), and STILL have the exploded/wrecked chances from penning shots.

Should have been 4HP all around and only allow wrecked/exploded results on AP1 or AP2 weapons. Right now unless its AV13+ on the sides/front, theres damn near no reason to take anything cuz it just explodes from random strength #4001 that happened to roll a 6 to pen.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

It's exactly the same. Instant death causes a model to be removed from the table regardless of how many wounds remain. Explosions cause a vehicle to be removed from play regardless of how many hull points are left.

Seems the same to me. Al Rahem inflicts one wound on a 5 wound model and it's removed. A melta gun gets one penetrating hit on a 4 hull point land raider and it explodes, removing it from the table. 4 wounds remained, 3 hull points remained....models didn't.

It is really not the same.

Instant death rules specifically say that a model hit with ID "is reduced to 0'Wounds and removed as a casualty." (16)

Explodes does not say that all remaining hull points are lost...

Why would it need to? He's not quoting a rule, he's giving an analogy.
The end result is the same as far as I can see for anything other than combat resolution against a walker...

I see no reason to nitpick at an inconsequential point of an otherwise perfectly good analogy that would easily answer the OP's question.
