Been Around the Block

Simply put a thread on how you remember your characters abilities and or just how your weapons work. I recently played a game of 40k with a 2k Necron army versus a 2k IG army. While the result may not have changed very much by me remembering abilities it certainly would have been nice to kill more.
For example I was using my annihilation barge on one of his 50 men blobs but kept forgetting that tesla can hit all the units around the model being hit instead of just getting an extra 2 die for wounds when I role a 6 to hit. Another less funny instance is when I was hit with a 50 men blob in CC and forgot about MSS
So how do you remember such things or is it pure reaction and memory.

Keep reading your codex. Keep reading the special rules for the primary units you use.
I forget things, too.

Stick a post-it on the edge of the table with the rule you're forgetting written down, and keep your dice right by it.

I don't forget anything for the most common things in my codex or the things I use most often. It's the dirty tricks in my opponents books I keep forgetting, even after asking them what things do like 10mins before hand. haha

I usually forget a lot of stuff in the heat of battle. I make a word document cheat sheet of each unit, their stats, gear, special rules. Then, if needed, i reference the page in the book, so I don't have to keep swapping through to find something. Its worked out pretty good so far.

I don't forget.
Generally my list is filled with things I've chosen for a specific role. I'm not likely to forget something that's important for that role.
Forgetting I have a HB on the front of my Executioner with PC sponsons? Yeah that happens occasionally, but it doesn't matter too much.

Dont know why I didnt think of it but a cheat sheet sounds quite useful, thanks for the advice as well as your opinions. Im sure in time I have most of the abilities remembered, but no one is perfect.

I *aaaaalways* forget to roll for Red Thirst for my Blood Angels until turn 1 or 2. Luckily, it's usually made no difference up til that point and my opponent's cool with letting me roll then instead...!

But really, when Im using a new codex I literally run down my army list by FOC. I make notes on my army lists.

I write down all the psychic powers I give my various psykers as well as the warlord trait each game to make sure I don't forget those, others I generally rely on my memory. If I forget something I'll write it down and be sure to remember it for the next few games and then it generally sticks. (I was always forgetting precision strikes and hammer of wrath until I did this) Of course, playing Tyranids I tend to have less *special snowflakes* than a lot of other armies, so with a lot of special rules I'd recommend writing them down alongside psychic powers, warlord traits and victory points on a notebook.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Grenades. I play veteran-spam IG (so everyone has frag/krak) and I always forget to throw a grenade.
As for how to remember, play the game a lot. I don't forget anything important because I've played so many games with the same army, the only things I still forget are minor 6th edition changes that rarely come up or make a difference.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Before GW had another hissy-fit, Army Builder was great for this.
It had a list of abilities for each unit, and a breakdown of what those powers did.
Now though, it's just a list of page references.
Something I'll be doing is unit cards.
Keywords on a card for each unit type, split into movement, shooting, assault and general.
If they have Scout, list it in General (Outflank and pre-game move), and Movement (Reserves).
