Barbs from a fake feather. They sell them at Hobby Lobby. Clumped up like static grass and then glued into a hole in the base, they were supposed to look like ferns. Do you like them?

Hrmm...I've already gloss-coated it, then matte-varnished it. I don't think I can do a wash at this point, can I?

You can paint, wash, whatever you want over a coat of varnish. My typical painting process involves multiple coats of various varnishes over several layers. You'll be fine.

I did not know that. I'll have to give it a shot at some juncture. Since Vico is probably going to get benched (save for one game, he's had poor performance in this edition so far) I may use him as the test model for it.
