Hi Everyone,

I used to play Warhammer Fantasy 20 years ago, but have decided now I'm a student once more to play a bit of 40k. I'd really like a bit of opinion about the IG Army list I've made, it's 1000pts but growing to 2000 in the future. I've visited my local GW and from what I could see there was a lot of Space Marine armies so I guess I'll be battling them a lot but I'd like my 1K to still be competitive against others. I've read a lot recently about tactics, blobs (:-(), lemans and such but of course you can't buy experience so, here it is:

Company Command Squad
Master of Ordnance =80pts

Veteran Squad
3 Sniper Rifles
1 Autocannon =95pts

Veteran Squad
3 Sniper Rifles
1 Autocannon =95pts

Veteran Squad
3 Sniper Rifles
1 Autocannon =95pts

Veteran Squad
3 Sniper Rifles
1 Autocannon =95pts

Leman Russ Battle Tank =150pts

Leman Russ Executioner =190pts

Vendetta Gunship
Heavy Bolters =140pts

Aegis Defense Line =50pts

TOTAL=990pts

I'm sure you can tell it's a gun line army as I feel it's best for me at the mo. So what do you great generals recommend, future purchases ideas would be cool too?
Thanks a lot guys ;-)

Drop the Heavy Bolters. The vendetta will always be shooting tanks. Sniper rifles are not worth it. Grenade launchers are preferable for the adaptabilty.

As the veteran squads will be shooting infantry and light tanks missile launchers would be better than autocannons. As for future purchases MOAR VENDETTAS is what I would suggest.

I hope this was helpful.

Your CCS are all veterans and can all take special weapons. Put that to use! At least get a heavy weapon in there.

Master of Ordinance is likely to scatter too far to be worthwhile, especially at 1000 points when your targets will be more spread out and smaller.

I think the snipers & autocannons could potentially work. Maybe not all four squads though. See about a plasmavet or meltavet squad with those extra points from MoO.

Heavy bolters on the Vendetta can be handy. It's not uncommon to find yourself forced to turn away from any useful targets while zooming, and those sponsons mean you're at least doing something. You'll probably only shoot one at a time though, and aren't likely to score more than one kill, if any. They're debatable.

Executioner is often underrated. I think you'll like it.

I'd get some more ways to threaten AV14, such as meltaguns, lascannons or S10 tanks like a Demolisher, Medusa or Manticore. Otherwise, the bulk of the list is solid. Good luck!
