I admit, I love the Thousand Sons and their models. Sadly they aren't of much use mainly because they can't change their wargear.
So, in order to use my beloved Rubics I thought about equipping a pair of them with special weapons and run them as either PMs or normal CSMs.
The sorcerer would of course be a standard champion with no powers.

As I normally play Alpha Legion I could twist it into that AL are masquerading as TS to divert attention away from their own legion.

What do people think about this?

I don't think you'd have a problem using them as standard CSMs, in that case you could probably just paint them in the rest of your army's color scheme, and just say before the game "those are just regular CSM." In that case you're just using a bit different models, but its fairly apparent that they're meant to be a normal part of your army. If you paint them as Thousand Sons, it might be a bit more jarring and create confusion, but you could probably still get away with it.

Using them as Plague Marine on the other hand is a no-go, unless you do some heavy greenstuff work to give them all the guts, bile and boils that make a Plague Marine what he is. Fluff-wise I don't see any justifications either, Nurgle and Tzeentch being arch enemies is the first think that made me say "no way." Even if you did all that greenstuff work, it still wouldn't be fluffy because Thousand Sons are just dust and soul in armor, so there is no body for the guts, bile and boils.

TL,DR? Use them as CSM and paint them in your armies color scheme is my suggestion.

Well I suppose you could justify using plague marines by saying that the squad's sorcerer has the power to make everyone ultra tough or something. Then you could represent this by painting them differently to the rest of your army.

I say do it after all it is your army so do what you want just have a perfect fluff reason for it after all there is nothing in the rulebook that says you can't, as well as someappropriate modelling as well but you don't have to do Nurgle conversions go Tzeentch style ones maybe they are more tougher and resilient due to some mutations or something , sure there will still be jerks who say you can't but oh well. I actually do the exact same thing except use plague marines as thousand sons my fluff reason is that since the Wraith Knights (my Nurgle DIY chapter)frequently raise the dead to fight for them they use necromancers (aspring sorcerers) who command a squad of zombie space marines using the +4 inv save and slow and purposeful representing their zombie nature with AP3 boters representing poisoned bolters (after all zombies can use guns too) my reasoning is that a raised zombie marine squad would not be as tough as normal plague marines or be able to move like them here is the squad I use for it
Thousand sons aka zombie marines

Aspring sorcerer aka Necromancer

(they are painted its just this is the only pic I have on my computer as I currently don't have a camera any more due to an accident )
I use these guys all the time and I have never gotten a single negative comment I just let my opponent know what they are and my justification, if anything people are more surprised as well as interested to see thousand sons in a Nurgle army but converted so they fit perfectly with the Nurgle image (planning on converting more and doing a entire thousand son style army like this all in blue of course)
(if you want to see more pics of all the squad PM me)

In granting those who oppose me death I am giving them the mercy of Nurgle.
Releasing my enemies from the bonds of fear and oppression , from the shame of betrayal, I preform a kindness I erase contempt, regret, sorrow, insanity all the burdens of life, embrace death and be free or reject Nurgles gift and be destroyed.

I think it's the best way for the old guard of Chaos players to have thier cake and eat it to. Since 50% of the cults lost a lot of value on the competitive scene. You can just model and field your army the best way you think they should look for fluff. Then you can field all the most effeicent units to be competitive.

I need to return some video tapes.
