Since I run Salamanders, I figured I would be wasting Vulkan's points if I didn't have at least a couple of thunder hammers in the army.

Hence, Sergeant Arges and the Cyclopes, my assault terminators.

Here they are from the left, showing off their scratchbuilt thunder hammers:

...aaaand now here they are from the right, showcasing their storm shields:

The hammers are made from balsa wood and lollipop sticks. The cooking section at Hobby Lobby has some neat wargaming applicable stuff. The shields are lizardmen shields, except for Sergeant Arges, whose shield is the front of a Harlequins jetbike painted up in mutant-Salamander colors. (If you noticed from the photos, the shield on Arges swivels in his hand.)

I really like the way you've been painting your salamanders. Its a very simple solid green, I think it goes well with the idea of solid plate metal for termi shells, I don't think it needs a wash or anything for the crevasses. The bronze contrast looked much better here then the land raider, where it is a bit better proportioned in terms of green to bronze

Those models are looking great, but as a fellow Salamanders player I feel I should pass on a few tips from my experience.
I would suggest red as an alternative lens colour in a green helm to make the face pop more and draw attention to the centre of the model. Filling in the targeting relay with black and a lens colour would also help a great deal. And to really focus the attention on the model I would suggest painting the heraldry shields on the shoulders black with the central icon bronze to bring a bit more pop. A quick wash with Thraka Green or the new version would help a great deal with a scorpion green highlight on the main plates really bringing out the great shade of green you've got going on. The only pic I have showing this in decent light is the captain's power fist below, its a subtle effect but one that works well.

It probably seems like I'm ragging on you a bit, but you have a truly good foundation here, a few minutes work will make them perfect
Really love the lizard man shields too!

You make some good points Spectral. I had given some thought to painting the heraldry shields black, but after comparing a few pictures from a Google search (and asking some friends for advice) I felt that the majority opinion (of my admittedly small poll sector) favored green for them. (And while I would happily paint the central icon bronze, there is no icon there. Those are decals from the limited printing Salamanders sheet Games Workshop put out last year.)

Red for the lens color is an interesting idea I hadn't thought of. I think before I do it on my terminators I will give it a test run on something else. I have some bikes in the pipeline which need to be painted, so I may give it a go on them.

I may very well take your opinion on the washes, just trying to figure out how to do them correctly.

And thanks for the encouragement, to both of you!

Ill pm you a pic tomorrow of my terminators with red lenses to give you an idea of what it looks like if you want, just have to set up decent lighting for the shot.

An alternative option is gold heraldry shields, I tried this approach when settling on my scheme and it worked reasonably well to break up the green.

As for the washes Thraka green is a breeze to apply, I actually premix it in the bottle in a 80/20 wash/water ratio and apply directly with a brush as you would a paint. Focus on the recesses and shadowed areas and take it slow to avoid bubbles or streaks I'm not too sure how the new shade works for green but the ones I have tried have worked a charm!

I'd appreciate that, Spectral.

Thanks demonator! I was really happy with the way they turned out. (I also tried to paint the hammer heads as though they were blocks of marble, but I'm less pleased with how that turned out.)

I really like the hammers and shields. Very nice use of resources. However the models look pretty green heavy. You should do a wash on them to bring out the details and make them look at bit more veteranized

Thanks Zuk! Washes are definitely in the pipeline, as soon as I figure out how to do it and actually have any effect. (Also, thanks for the word 'veteranized!')
