I picked up the VC codex over the weekend and started to do a little army building. I then pointed out a unit of these guys because the models rock. Well they dropped in at 485 and so I started to think a little. The good news so far unless I missed something is that they can be brought back to un-life.

So whats your take on them guys?

They are a great pointsink unit, they don't do anything that a comparable point total of black knights don't do better...which is a pity as a Blood Dragon list is on my to do list

in this edition, normal cavalry units are only useful if they cost a few points, and bloody knights is more expensive units out there. This is the edition of the monstrous cavalry.

Blood knights were the best unit in 7th, hands down. Built correctly, they could weather any attack and win with ease. I threw half a chaos army at them in a single turn, only to lose half my army. They are no longer as broken in 8th. Best regular cavalry? Yes. Should you get them now if you don't already own them? Probably not necessary.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I've always loved the Blood Knights, to the extent that I themed my Vampire Counts army around them (Bretonnians...etc)

But I do find them a bit difficult to play with, mostly due to step up, and my hesitations. They also become quite a large target (more so because the opponent is often quite disproportionately worried).

I'm tending towards them being monster killers now, and hoping that they score enough wounds on the charge to kill something

In 7th edition the Blood Knights were a killer unit. In this edition I would take the Black Knights and / or Hexwraiths any day. It all depends on what you want the unit to do.
