Thanks for the replies. These aren't meant to be super dooper or anything. I'm going for a real footslogging wave of troops. At 2000pts with conscripts I intend to have over 200+ boots on the table.

Just want a good standard that will allow me to do that many without going insane. As I said these are WIP shots they still have all kind of little details to finish, and haven't been sprayed with the "magic pixie dust" yet.

Which is what I call matte varnish from back when I first discovered that not only does it seal a model it makes it look better too. Something to do with light diffusion or something.

Basically though going for a classy looking IG horde that deviates from the other IG armies I see that are 40 guys and a command squad, 3 vendetta's, 2 leman russ's, a manticore, and some chimera's for good measure. Not that mechanized isn't cool just so rare to see actual boots on the table. Back when I first started playing IG I had over 100 Mordian boots on the table. Was pretty fearsome. When I finish these guys I'm going to revisit my Mordians with some fresh paint.
