Hello everybody,

After thinking about it for a long time i decided to start a second army. I have been collecting CSM for about 6ish years now and my Chaos army grew to about 6000 points worth of pure Chaos and i love every part of it, but i would like to experience a new start a new army a new story. I decided to go with Necrons i love their look, fluff and it looks like their playstyle and rules are a lot of fun.

A friend gave me some units to start with and the codex but iám not sure where to go from here.

My Necron army so far: [UPDATED LIST]

HQ: Nemesor Zahndrekh(bought the real model )
Vangard Obyron
Trazyn the Infinite

5x Immortals with Tesla Carbine

5x Immortals with Gauss Blasters

12x Warriors

5x Deathmarks

3x scarab swarm

Night Scythe

Annihilation Barge

4x Cryptek (I converted the Praetorians set to Crypteks)
2x Necron Lord with ressurection orb

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was thinking of getting more troops like warriors and more immortals and some Necron Lords to form a royal court. Also iám not sold on Trazyn and was thinking about Imotekh the Stormlord or Obyron.

My idea for this army was to focus on making it a shooty army. But Canoptekh Wraithsalso look really strong.

Please help me it all looks so good and fun, I could really need some help.

Greetings Demic

Mix and match.

I just started Necron and from what it seems you can really pick elements that are strong and work them together. Just because you are shooty doesn't mean to can't field some Wraiths - you will need some sort of CC deterrent or you will get Sweeping Advanced constantly.

I don't think anybody will fault you if you use your Trazyn as a "counts as" unit. I'd really suggest checking out Nemesor as he can give Tank Hunter (re-roll misses to glance/pen against vehicles) to your Warrior squads which causes havoc. 40 rapid fire shots with Tank Hunter? It's dead. The other bonuses he gives are great too.

I'd suggest you flesh out your troop selection first then grab yourselves some Night Scythes/Ghost Arks, Annihilation Barges, and Wraiths to build a good core for your army. You can really branch out from there - but I've found that transports make the world of difference for Necron.

Trazyn is not a great HQ character. He is outshined in almost every way by a basic overlord with a few upgrades.
What he is good for, other than being the only named necron phaeron overlord, are his complimentary MSS.
Thanks to 6th having secondary objectives,he is really great at 'denying' slay the warlord, when given enough lords/crypteks or units of lychguard on the field. His primary builds include, sticking him on a catacomb command barge and driving around assaulting weak infantry or blob units.Or sticking him with a group of teleporting lychguard with dispersion shields, making a very tough scoring unit that will not die.

Imothek has Phaeron.

The number one reason to take him though is what you hit on last, he scores. Attach him to a big group of LG or RC, or get real creative and attach him to a maxed out Deathmark squad with a RO/MSS/SW/WS Lord.

Basically, if you want to make a scoring Deathstar or mini deathstar, Trazyn is your guy.

I will play Trazyn as Nemesor and i will buy Obyron.

would you suggest warriors or only take immortals and i was thinking tesla carbines for bonus hits on 6s and i like the assault weapon. or would you suggest gaus for the auto glances on 6s?

Is it viable to deploy without transports or woudl you guys suggest getting the vehicles?

I think Immortals with Tesla Carbines is a totally viable troop choice. However the bigger question is vehicles. Taking the arks can be awesome but of course that means warriors as troops... Think about it... 20 warriors in range of 3 arks with 1 lord with a res orb.... assuming that 1 warrior survives an enemy shooting phase, 10 get up on protocol and 6 to 9 stand up by being near... That makes enemy fire almost non-existent. Taking scythes - at least right now - makes your army almost untouchable however your troop choices will be small.

Now to go back to your all-immortal concept. I believe the tesla weapons are the way to go but then you have to think about how you are going to get your anti-tank.
Crypteks, heavy destroyers etc.

I've enjoyed running Trazyn in a Lychguard squad equipped with Sword and Board and adding in a Court Lord with Scythe / Scarabs / Orb, maybe another with Scythe / Scarabs.

It's a few points, but a lot of fun. Oh, Nightscythe as a delivery mechanism works best for that unit. Stand around, deflect shots, then charge and kill something with your 2-3 MSS unit that has 2 warscythes and Trazyn's blob killer (Ork Boyz and Tyranids beware). Court Lords are characters, so they can soak up a challenge, if need be.

--

The only real stinkers in the codex are Flayed Ones, the Monolith, Destroyers, and Doomsday Arcs. Steer clear of those and you should be able to build a competitive list.

Nightscythes are one of the best things in all of 40k as well.

The book does synnergy quite well:
- Imotekh and Skimmer spam
- Destroyer Lords and Wraithwing
- Canoptek Spiders and Scarabs
- Triarch Stalkers and Warriors
- AV13 Spam (Surfboard Lords, Annihilation Barges, Stalkers, Ghost Arcs)

Get some standard warriors, don't want to miss out on the glancing with vehicles....especially Landraiders! Lol IMO it's best to field a full squad of ten, with rapid fire you get 20 shots and have the chance to glance it to death. Also some death marks won't go a miss, grouping them with a harbinger of despair.

I love fielding a group of wraiths with one equipped with whip coils, watch as a tactical squad is ripped apart with ease.

This is my current Necron list, its not competative in anyway...I only play for fun but saying that I haven't lost a game yet. HAHA 2 wins and 1 draw.

HQ

Overlord-----160pts
+ Warscythe
+ Semp Weave
+ Phaze Shifter

Royal Court

Harbringer of the Storm-----25pts
Harbringer of Despair-----60pts
+ Veil of Darkness

Elites

5x Deathmarks-----95pts

Troops

10x Warriors-----230pts
+ Nightscythe

10x Warriors-----245pts
+ Ghost Ark

10x Warriors-----130pts

5x Immortals-----85pts
+Tesla

5x Immortals-----85pts
+Gauss

Fast Attack

3x Canoptek Wraiths-----120pts
+ 1xWhip Coil

Heavy

Annihilation Barge-----90pts
+TL Tesla Destructor

Doomsday Ark-----175pts

Total 1500pts

I place the Desptek with the Tesla Immortals to start with and in turn 1 teleport them across the table, once the Deathmarks get into play later in the game I make a decision to eithe keep the Desptek in that unit or swap him into the Deathmarks. Ususally he stays but theres always option to mess with your enermies priorities.

The warriors & immortals tend to wade across the board in there groups. One of them having the Stormtek attached and another one having the Overlord in it [he does have the Res Orb ]

Wraiths phaze across the board to cripple a squad or two depending on how the rolls fall.

Ghost ark follows the Overlord and his squad, the heavy support stays back and fires everything it has...I haven't yet had to move the Doomsday Ark [but then again it does have 72' range lmao]

More than none the warriors will fall but I've been very lucky to have a lot get back up. Plus with the ghost ark floating around it can restore some of them back, in 3 games I've had roughly one additional squad of warriors get repaired and fight again.

Be sure to get both

Wraiths are amazing at what they do. Their 3++ save will make sure they survive long enough to charge in and make a mess of the enemy territory, even more so if you have a 2+ DLord soaking up small firearm wounds (and your Wraiths get Hatred (Everything!)). Something I noticed is that even if they suffrer losses, the oponent pretty much had to focus with his entire army on them, allowing you to advance with the rest of your troops. Their only problem is that they are kinda fragile. T4 means they can be insta-killed and they don't have res-protocols since they are "normal" robots.

Nightscythe is an amazing transport. Not only it has a twin-lined Tesla Destructor, it beams in your troops. If by some random reason it's destroyed before you unload your troops (which can be done before or after you completed your move, which means interceptor weapons only fire AFTER this), your troops become standard reserves, so no casualties there.

Overall, the only miniatures I wouldn't consider using are Flayed Ones, and that's because it's a fortune for 5 faillcast minis.

Good luck and have fun, fellow Necron Lord

If you want to pop tanks harbingers of destruction, 36 range Str 8 and AP2 for 35 points its hard to go wrong and they can take solar pulse which gives you night fight for a turn.

But it really depends on your local meta, who do you play against most.

I also suggest gettin an annihaltion barge kit. it come with the barge and a free overlord with CCB. not to mention i love the ABs main gun st7 twin linked. i dont really rely on the arc its more of a bonus if it does anything

I usually run a Harbringer of the Storm in a squad of warriors and a Harbringer of Despair with Deathmarks or Immortals with Tesla Carbines...

Nothing like watching enermy armour crumble with the haywire staff.

Deathmarks are great when you absolutely, POSITIVELY, MUST make whatever you point them at die (as long as it's not a vehicle)

I'm a fan of coasing 10 deathmarks with 2 despairteks in a scythe up to my target, then asking my opponent to remove it from the board. It's very satisfying removing 30 boys and their attached kff mek from the board on turn 2 in one round of shooting from one unit, or taking out the swarmlord in one round of shooting.

Take 6 5 man warrior units all in night scythes then take 3 doom scythes the rest 6 man squads of wraiths a spider and a small unit of scarabs. You'll make most people quit by turn 3.

Why? That's a terrible list with no board presence.

I agree with Shadar, That list is not fun if it wins and not fun if it loses.
I love Trazyn for his fluff and abilities. He needs support though. I like to make him into a mini scoring deathstar with an orb lord with mss, and whatever flavor of lychguard you like. You can chuck in some crypteks too, especially stormteks. Your other HQ would need to be one of the 4 that get courts. The disadvantage isthat you can't get double courts and you can't run a destroyer lord with your wraiths.
Zandy and Oby are the best HQ in the dex, imho, rules and fluff both. LOVE EM.
I have been playing Crons for years. Use what you like, thats what most vet Cron players do.

I love Zandy and Oby

Next on my list will be Deathmarks and more immortals/warriors and some Nightscythes and wraiths.

Will this be enough to start some play testing and buildign a solid list? Or do i lack crucial elements.
