Sometime ago I posted pictures of my scratchbuilt Vulkan (with mixed reviews!) and more recently I posted a picture of his shoulder asking for advice on it. (Thanks to SickSix for the winning suggestion!) And here he is, menacing the camera.

Next, we see him from behind, strutting his stuff to show off his stylish dragonskin cape.

Finally, here he is showing off that shoulderpad which gave me so much grief.

Constructive criticism is always welcome. (Unless your suggestion is "shorten the spear," in which case let's all save each other some time and just skip it.) This is only my first Vulkan, and I am sure I will make another at some point in the future, so any advice is totally welcome.

I thought scratch built meant you shaped it yourself out of plasticard and greenstuff, while this would be more of a kit bash, no?

Good job though.

The shoulderpad turned out nicely! Great job.

Looks good to me nice and dynamic. I would have painted the base a different colour though. The green on the base is very similair to green on the armour I think a different colour on the base (say a light tan) would make the armour pop more... other than that I like it.

Purifier, I always thought that 'scratchbuilt' meant that you put it together with parts that were in no way taken from the official model. (I base this on the example Games Workshop gives of scratchbuilding in the 5th edition rulebook, where their scratchbuilt models still have GW parts.) And I always thought that kit-bashing was what a high-tech did in a classic Marvel RPG game when he needed a power in a hurry!

Thanks Charley and SickSix!

Lost, I haven't heard that before. Did you mean the flock, or the paint underneath it? I may look at investing in a different kind of flock after this though. (Maybe some kind of marsh blend.)

Ahhh you're using flock I'm guessing green paint with green flock on top?..... I generally PVA sand to my bases and the paint it what ever colour I want before adding extra bits to my base. I just think a diffent colour on the base would provide more contrast to make the miniature stand out more a flock this colour for example

anyway just my two pence worth still a nice mini

You might be correct. If I can figure out how to do sand correctly (thus far it eludes me) I may give it a shot on my next Vulkan. I just noticed, however, that the fallen leaves on Vulkan's base look a lot more like flowers than they do on the other models in my army.

I like the model, but the only suggestion I have is to greenstuff the cape while carving out a scalled pattern in the greenstuff.

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

I may try greenstuffing the cape next time around. I'm kinda digging the freehanded scales on this one, they came out a helluva lot better than I thought they were gonna. Going to go back at some point and give them some edging, though.
