Hi there.

I'm a new DA player and I've been poring over my Codex and Rulebook + playing several games (winning one by a whisker!), and I have several questions to ask regarding the Special Rules:-

1. Hammer of Wrath (with Assault Squad): When is it activated? Example - I move forward 12" (jump packs) and after shooting I declare a charge. I roll 2D6 and I successfully negotiate a successful charge on the enemy unit. Does Hammer of Wrath activate immediately?

2. Hammer of Wrath (with Ravenwing): Same question as above - When is it activated? Example - I move forward 12" (regular movement) and after shooting I declare a charge. I roll 2D6 and I successfully negotiate a successful charge on the enemy unit. Does Hammer of Wrath activate immediately?

3. When using Deep Strike, I am required to roll for scatter (no teleport homers or anything). How is this roll? Ballistic scatter is [2D6 minus BS]. So how does one roll for scatter when deep striking?

4. When using Hit & Run for the Ravenwing, to run at the end of the Assault Phase, there is an Initiative Test. How do you test this? Is it like the regular 1D6 + Initiative against the enemy 1D6 + Initiative?

How to get some help here guys. I'm really loving this game but I better get the rules correct!

Thanks again!

I'll answer what little I can:

1. HoW is only in effect if you use your packs to charge, which you can't if you used them to move.
Regarding when it hits, it's stated in the rule that it is a separate attack at initiative 10 in the fight sub phase. That means it's gonna hit before just about anything, and at the same time as anyone else hitting at initiative 10, but the attack is a part of the fight, just like any other attack your models make.

3. same as ballistic, 2d6, no modifiers unless specifically stated that you have any.

4. An initiative test is 1D6 vs your initiative. It's a Charactarstics test

Just in the time honoured tradition of teaching a man to fish, a lot of this could be answered using the Index at the back of your Warhammer 40k Rulebook.

For example, if you looked up Scatter in the alphabetical list, it would point you to pages 6 on 33, page 6 gives you the rules for scattering everything in the game.

Similarly, Hammer of Wrath would point you to page 37 which contains everything you need to know about Hammer of Wrath, including the fact that it is done at the Initiative 10 step in the combat.

Not trying to get on you about it, but it's a useful tool that lots of newer players don't seem to realise is there, hopefully it helps you resolve things in the future.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Although you are right, it can feel very big and daunting when you're a starter. If you can get clarification enough from someone else for enough of your big queries to try playing a few times, it's easier for the rest to fall into place as you get a better grasp of the full ruleset. Or so I believe atleast.

A big thank you to both of you for taking the time to comment here!

While the mountain of rules seems insurmountable at first, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it all eventually.

I definitely agree on having to play more games to better familiarize myself with the various rules that apply to my army.

Tomorrow is hobby night where I am, so howay the lads!

Just remember, you only get HoW attacks for the models in the unit that make it into B2B contact with the enemy.

One more question if I may:

I've tried to look this up - can't find the info in my beloved Codex or Rulebook. Even the Internet was not helpful!

If one of my Ravenwing bikers is holding a plasma gun, I know he can Rapid Fire + charge. However, in the shooting phase, can he shoot both his plasma gun as well as the twin-linked bolters?

Twin-Linked Boltgun OR;
Rapid Firing Plasma Gun + Twin-Linked Boltgun?

The rule you're looking for is under the Biker entry.

It's in the rulebook. A given model can only fire one weapon in a given turn unless it has a special rule to the contrary (like attack bikes firing one per rider).

Thanks for that guys. I must have misunderstood...

I thought I saw a table which mentioned something about 'how many weapons can be fired'. Under 'Bikes' it said 'All'....

Page 45, bottom left corner has the correct rule for you.
Edit: as more information - a "Rider" is a Marine or other model riding the bike - either steering or in a sidecar.
