They were once close air-support fighters that were posessed by daemons. over time, the daemon has warped the craft into a draconic visige and it has become more animal than machine. The original pilot is still in command, his mind and body now inseperable from the vehicle. He basically has a metal body now, that is also posessed by a daemon.
