Hey everybody! So I've had a passing interesting in FoW for a while now. But since I've been taking multiple European history classes (including a in depth WW2 tactics class), FoW is on my mind once again.
My question pertains to running a viable French army. I've read the basic sources and played around on EasyArmy, but I still need some advice from people who have played with/against the French.
I have a large interest in tanks, and I know that this option is a good way for beginners to get into the game. So what would be some tips to running a strong tank company?
Also, some more specific questions about the tanks.
What are the pros and cons between the Renault, Somula, and the Char B1?
Would infantry be the best back up for tanks in general, certain tank choices, or would something else be more beneficial?
Thank you Dakka for your time and help!

As far as I know, French is almost entirely Early War. This is good and bad.

Good, because you don't have any super strong things to worry about.

Bad, because you will have a hard time finding ready opponents compared to Late War or even Mid War.

French Tanks are fun. In the Early war, French tanks are incredibly powerful and slow for the era. AKA your tanks are the strongest for the time. I can't help with specifics, since I run mostly Infantry, but I know that combined arms is the best way to go. You want infantry to support your tanks, preferably something in a transport so they can keep up.

I think theres a few Mid War lists, and theres also a late war list that just uses american organization/equipment

I understand that Early War will be harder to find. I am planning on buying the starter set to allow myself to play some late/mid war games.
However the most important part of the hobby for me is the painting/modeling, and I really want to make a French army. So if I made an Early War French Company (either based off of the Escadron de Combat list or the Compagnie de Combat list), any advice?
