Considering that Rhinos took a hit as pure transports, I'm considering turning them into "Havocbacks" for mobile firepower.

Has anyone had luck with this?

Havo launcher is a great weapon, the problem is the same in 6th as it is with stock razorbacks in that they blow up very easily and often give up the crucial first blood super quick.

Now I run rhinos, sometimes with havok launchers, and they are great extra punch. But in terms of mobility you are better off treating rhinos as bunkers, hopefully in cover, and keeping the havok launchers as just turrets on those bunkers. If your looking for a IVF, mobile Calvary solution, then you're probably going to be quite dissapointed.

CSM rhinos as 'havocbacks' are actually pretty good. The Havoc launcher is a pretty decent weapon, being STR 5 and twin-linked. The main benifit is that you can also have your two characters shooting from the fire point. This combos really well if your bringing cult troops like noise marines with dual blastmasters or plague marines with dual plasma guns.

This falls short in a few areas. As was mentioned, rhinos can pop really easily. Even behind an ADL, you can expect to lose them fast. The worst thing is they give up "First blood" far to often.

If I were to build an 'havocback' spam list, it would be something like this at 1750

HQ
Chaos Lord w/Power Axe, MoN, Sigil

Troops
5 PMs w/2 PGs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher
5 PMs w/2 PGs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher
5 PMs w/2 PGs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher
5 PMs w/2 PGs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher + Dirge Caster

Fast Attack
Helldrake with Bale Flamer
Helldrake with Bale Flamer

Heavy Support
5 Havocs w/2 ACs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher
5 Havocs w/2 ACs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher
5 Havocs w/2 ACs in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher

Your bringing 7 'havocbacks' behind an ADL, and dual helldrakes just to keep your opponent honest.
The list would probably need work, but thats what I would start with.

Nice army.

Since I'm already taking Rhinos, I'm accepting the liability there. My thought was more about increasing my long range firepower without investing too many points.
