I was wondering, how large can a chaos warband usually (probably not a "usual" among chaos though) be? Not just marines but cultists, beastment, traitor guard and such, would these normal forces number in 10,000, 100,000 or up in millions?. On Lexicanum it had a list of space hulks and mentioned a hulk containing 200,000 chaos followers, is this many or few?

And how many chaos space marines is acceptable for a medium size warband? 100, 500, 1000? i dont think any other than the greatest warbands from the original legions go past 10,000.

I wanted to know because i want to make a bit of background for a chaos invasion campaign but don't want to stray too far from the usual numbers.

It can vary incredibly, it could be titanic, with more marines than a chapter, or it could be chaos Lord Steve and his six friends.

This is a signature. It contains words of an important or meaningful nature.

Warbands are essentially a grouping of chaos followers.

But if its a cSm warband, I'd suggest that if its renegade chapter, then a 1000 is the top although casualties or if its a company then 50-150 is more reasonable.

And remember, cultists don't count, have as many as you like.
