My first attempt at magnetizing anything came today. I got some 1/8 by 1/16 inch earth magnets and went to town. I decided that if the chapter was going to entrust the Deathwing's ancient banner, it'd be to someone that was trusted enough to wear another ancient relic of the armory, that being a set of Cataphractii Terminator armor. He'll be equipped with a TH/SS as well.

I cut the bottom of the banner off using a straight razorsaw then glued it directly atop the magnet. I then drilled a hole in the top of the Cataphractii armor using a Ryobi drill bit in a pin vise (it barely fit in). A little super glue to hold it in, followed by some greenstuff to smooth it over and this is what I got.

I have some plasticard from Plastruct. I've got some kite shield shapes I've downloaded off of the web and I'm going to cut them to shape. I'll then smooth the sides, glue some Dark Angels icons to the front, add a purity seal or three, and then glue to the arms. I'll use a bit of green stuff to act as the strap/handle.

Looking good. I really like those models and what you're planning to do with them. The shields sound like they should be cool and work out well too.

Sounds good, I'm intending to do my own Cataphractii Command Squad and have been unable to decide what direction to go with the shields, the armour is so spartan looking that I think to use the ornate ones in the new Deathwing box wouldn't really match, but I've been struggling to find good replacements, maybe I will have to do like you and give making my own shields a try.

Definitely worth a shot. My only problem right now is that I don't have a Dremel and it's taking me several cuts to get to the card with a hobby knife. Taking a break to eat at the moment.
