Hi, I just finished a 500pt game at my GW, which I won with my DA vs Daemons.
It was a fight to the last marine/hellspawn scenario, 4' x 2' table deploying on short edges. Armies:
DA: Librarian (Prescience), 2x Tac squads with PG and PC, 3x Ravenwing bikes with 1x PG.
Daemons: Squad of stabby daemons with a big guy on a juggernaut, small squad of flamer horrors, squad of shooty things.
Warlord traits were both objective related, so not relevant. I rolled first turn and deployed one tac on 2nd floor of a building left flank, another tac behind a low wall right flank, librarian with left squad, ravenwing in reserve.
T1 he wasn't on the table, so other than giving my left squad Prescience, I did squat. He rolled his stabby squad only onto the table, direct hit deep strike in the gap between my squads. Being stabby, they didn't do anything to my marines. He said he wished his shooties arrived first, but I suspect that wasn't a great place to DS them, given he was in rapid fire range of both my squads...
T2 I evaporated the stabby squad completely with Prescience on the left squad. Nothing left. In his turn the rest of his army arrived, again in between both of my squads. The horrors lived up to their name, killing 8/10 marines on the right flank. The shooties killed 2 marines on the left flank, my cover saves coming in handy.
T3 my Ravenwing arrived, and I assaulted with everything, saving my warp charge for the Force sword. One marine on the right died to overwatch against the horrors, then all the horrors died. My charge on the left was good, cutting the shooty daemons in half. The Daemon boss refused my challenge and slunk away. Bottom of T3 most of the rest of the Daemon army died.
T4 with Prescience and a backup charge from the Ravenwing, and it was all over. DA victory.
So that being my first 6ed game vs Daemons, I'm left thinking that CD are an "all or nothing" kind of army that can swing greatly on luck of the dice. I think my combination of cover and Prescience on the left was a strong combo, and deploying the Ravenwing in reserve was the right call or they would have dropped on T2/3. I feel that his tactical choices allowed me to bring big dakka against his stabbies, and my stabby against his big dakkas, which went well for me. However if the shooties had arrived first (luck of the dice), or he had DSed the stabbies out of my rapid fire range, it would have been a different ball game.
Any thoughts on how the battle could have gone differently?
Cheers
