Hi, all.

Sorry for this, it’s another “Er… what?”-type of question from a new player. Hey, you were all new once, too.

The Imperial Guard Codex states in the army-list that within an Infantry Squad, “The Sergeant may replace his laspistol and/or close combat weapon for…”
Ok, that’s basic English, I got that part, but what I don’t really get is the legality of the “and/or” bit.
So, does that mean that, if I wanted, I could keep the laspistol and replace the Sergeant’s close combat weapon for another weapon in that list, even if that weapon is a ballistic weapon? It does say “and/or”.

Could I have a Sergeant running around with a laspistol and plasma pistol, or two laspistols, or two bolt pistols, etc, etc? If so, I’ve never seen a model like it, which leads me to believe that I cannot. But if not, why the “and/or”?

An Armour Save? No, never heard of it. Me? I play Imperial Guard.

Yes, you can have two pistols.
You can swap the pistol, close combat weapon or both.

As Grendel have said. It's possible to model your sergeant with dual pistols or ccw. Normally nobody want to do that because it usually is a bad combination. e.g. any combination of plasma pistol too sucky for the point cost, duo chainsaw have the same number of attack as one laspistol + ccw but without shooting, dual FW is even worse since you are loading like 25 pts of gears on a models that only have str 3 atk, dual las-pistol is so so since you can shoot with both weapon now but 1 extra str 3 shot doesn't help you much.

Ah, I see.

So, if, for the sake of argument, I load a sergeant with two bolt-pistols, is he allowed to shoot twice?

I've flicked through the rulebook, but I couldn't find anything that says you can or can't.

yes I think anyone with two pistols now gets two shots IIRC.
